You may have read an earlier thread where i asked for opinions on where to pop the question.

I have done that on Valentines day in the Vatican City under the dome of St. Paul's during a surprise holiday to rome on our 5th anniversary, she said yes!!!!

Anyway, i need suggestions on where to get hitched!
I want it 5*, ie quietly classy. It will be a civil ceremony as neither of us is religious and i think it is a bit rich to get married in a church after some of my comments on here about religion (we won't get into it again) My girlfriend is thinking Scottish castle, but any picturesque, impressive location would do, we are only going to invite about 50-60 people, so it doesn't need to be too big or corporate.

So, where do you lot reckon?????????

One of my friends got married in a tiny Scottish castle. It was amazing. A perfect setting.

oh yeah: how about a manor house in the countryside, gravel drive with lots of sports cars, plenty of bolly, couple of decent chefs & a chap to handle all the organisation while you two relax, stress free

Wonderful setting, if you can get in:

www.leeds-castle.com/

May be worth having a word with:

www.elysianconsultants.co.uk or www.kateirelandweddings.co.uk/ depending on your budget. They can both get you into a top venue.

A friend got married at Eilean Donan Castle in Dornie, just next to Skye.

Very nice, all the right ticks in the box.

We stayed in Plockton, a gain very nice.

Mt brother got married at Syon House (near oxford?, sorry I'm a northerner!)

Its the main estate of the duke of northumberland and has a fantastic conservatory for the reception etc..

I'm sure there may be better - but that was stunning.

Think it was about £6k? for the day & night
(need your own catering, entertainment etc.)

Wroxall Abbey Estate is a good place.
The abbey is from the 13th Century and IIRC they have a priest that will do a civil ceremony.

Mail me offline if you want more details.

We tried that place... no dancing allowed IIRC and pretty strict rules on end times and stuff. Basically, whilst the venue is stunning it's pretty restrictive in what you can and can't do.

They look like they have some interesting venues.

Always fancied Stonehenge myself.

We had much the same when we investigated Beaulieu Motor Museam as a possible venue.
I don't see why these places claim to offer 'wedding facilities' and then proceed to impose draconian restrictions on alcohol and dancing.

Thanks for all the reply's and congrats, muchly appreciated, brochures have been sent for, some really nice suggestions, keep them coming, i am running short on ideas and would rather have a recommendation than just flailing around looking at everything. Are the wedding magazines any good, ie. useful or are they just candyfloss for the girlies
