Can anyone give a value for the correct front wheel "toe in" please? The car is a 1984 2.8i fitted with 14" wheels. A search revealed two settings of 2mm and 3.2mm which equates to 19" and 31". The "bible" unfortunately doesn't seem to give any info' on tracking. Thanks for any replies. J C.

Owners manual from Oct 84 says 3.2mm +/- 1.5mm front and the rear 4.5mm +/- 1.5mm

Here are the generic settings for all Wedges:

The tracking should be set at 3.2mm toe-in +/- 1.5mm

Caster: 3.5 - 4.0 deg. pos.
Camber (F) 1.0 deg. neg.
Camber (R) 1.0 - 1.5 deg. neg.
Toe (in) (F) 0.50 deg.
Toe (in) (R) 2MM - don't know why MM not deg!

2mm on 15inch rims = 0.30 degrees = 18 minutes
2mm on 17inch rims = 0.27 degrees = 16 minutes
Either way it's just a smidge toe in.

15 inch rims 3.2mm toe gives 0.24 degrees wheel to vehicle center-line or 0.48 degrees wheel to wheel.

14 inch rims 3.2mm toe gives 0.26 degrees wheel to vehicle center-line or 0.52 degrees wheel to wheel.

For the front
toe is 3.2 +/- 1.5mm
camber is 0 +/- 1.2 degres (not adjustable anyway is it?)
caster is 31.2 +/- 0.5 degrees
KPI 6 degrees (Not sure what this is?
For the rear
toe is 4.5mm
camber is 0.5 +/- 0.5 degrees (this seems small as the wheels have a visible camber)

hope that helps

Zig,

I've wondered about the rear settings, because the trailing arm setup will probably behave differently than the later 'A' frame ?

I would guess (and it IS a guess) that the trailing arm probably has more toe-in ??

Comments anyone ?

(based on the idea that toe-in really is to compensate for the bush distortion so the wheels are actually parallel when moving, which I think is true ... )

Hi Andy...Not 100% as i only pass this info on...I do recall that when i had the 4 wheel alignment done on Delilah that the toe in was more noticeable than on the 350i...Saying that the negative camber was more noticeable also...Ziga

Thanks Mark/Andy for the wealth of info'. Garage couldn't get their laser equipment onto the front wheel because of the wheel arch!! So have managed from work to dig out an old mirror system not used for years. Thanks again. John C.
