Hi all,
I'm toying with the idea of building a V8 Vantage track car, something along the lines of N24 but with V12 bodywork. I was contemplating a Cat 'B' DBS but ideally I'd like to keep it road legal as we already have one race car and I don't want to add complications of trailering to tracks.
Anyway my quandary is, as I already have a nice low mileage '07 Vantage it's too nice and sacrilege to do something like that to, so wondered if anyone here has an early, tatty, high mileage example they'd like to sell or ideally P/EX for mine?
I think this would be a great little project but if nothing comes of it, it's not the end of the world smile

Someone on here (I'm pretty sure) once started a thread like this. Long time ago and I'm not sure it was ever finished, but have a mooch round.

Are you planning to track the car often enough to warrant buying a car dedicated to track duty? If it's an occasional thing, there's plenty you can do to get your current car more track-capable. I've dropped over 100 lbs (45 kg) from my car without removing any features or reducing comfort. Exhaust and tune will get you 430 bhp from your 4.3L engine, which makes a big difference along with the weight loss. From my thread on another forum:

Using a mix of sources, here's the weight loss so far:
Custom wheels -19.5 lbs
MPSS tires -7.0 lbs
2-piece brake rotors -18.0 lbs
Lightweight battery kit -29.5 lbs
Muffler -27.0 lbs
High-flow cats -6.5 lbs
Cargo divider removed -10 lbs estimate (only when at the track)
Oil catch can kit +2 lbs
TOTAL: 105.5 lbs weight loss!

It'll have a fair bit of track time and compete in sprints/hill climbs too.

I heard that Charles Trents in Poole have a water damaged one that they have repaired and is being used as a run around....... I think they are going to be auctioning it off from what I heard. Maybe worth a call.....

Nice! Hope to see some updates as you get into it smile The weight loss stuff in my earlier posts still applies to a track car, too - you've just got a lot more liberty with tearing things out when you're not worried about driving it on roads!

The money you could potentially sink into this would generate an almost unbeatable Lotus Elise track car.

Or a Caterham. Or a single seater. But that's not the point. biggrin
We run an MG B-GT that I can honestly say, there isn't a Lotus Elise in the land that has ever come close to it. And that runs a live rear axle! And that's also in competition not just track days!
