I am doing a half ironman in the summer and need a bike fit for my Triathlon bike. I have two options near to me. One a respected LBS, the other a Retul (http://www.velomotion.co.uk/) place.

The Retul one is a few quid shy of being twice the price as the LBS. The LBS also do a Specialized bike geometry fit which is about the same as the Retul.

Is the Specialized/Retul worth the extra cost would you say? Bear in mind I am a former fatty, looking just to finish not set a PB on a £1K Planet X Stealth?

I've had a Spesh HG fit but no experience of Reutal other than what I've heard / read, so take the following with a pinch of salt if you will.

Both will be heavily dependant on the experience of the fitter and willingness to go outside the norm of what their systems tell them, Reutal being the more rigid using multiple data points to provide a recommended answer for the fitter to implement based on what the Reutal system thinks are optimal setups.

If they can't go beyond that then you're kind of stuffed with 'computer says no' but the experience of the fitter should provide a work around to that if the recommended position isn't agreeing with you.

My BG fit involved a lot of flexibility tests, assometer check and measurements of hip / knee / back angles all done by hand and gauges, then analysed using markers overlaid on a computer screen whilst being videoed pedalling. Again you are limited to the experience of the fitter and how they respond to making changes in one area that impact another, but seem less bound by the numbers of the Reutal system.

IMO of course but I came away happy with BG fit and haven't changed my setup since it.
