ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE - Model Year 2018
Discussion
This week the Autocar magazine has an article about Aston's next five models. In addition there will be two 'specials' each year.
2017 - Vantage.
2018 - Vanquish.
2018 - Electric Rapide.
2018-19 - DBX.
2020-21 - Lagonda (saloon).
Certainly ambitious plans.
Included in the article is an Autocar image of the next Vantage. I am probably not allowed to reproduce that picture here, but think DB10 with DB11 wing vents.
They say the launch is expected in the autumn of 2017, so perhaps not the anticipated March Geneva Motor Show.
There was also mention of the twin-turbo 5.2 litre V12 engine, being in the top model Vantage.

I'll take the risk for you. I doubt Autocar will mind as it's additional advertising for the magazine and we're not making any money from showing it. Here's the link to buy the mag: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/week-autocar/aut...Edited by kensilver on Friday 1st April 08:45

Am I the only one who much prefers the look of the current Vantage to the one on the front cover of the magazine? My thoughts might change when I see it in the flesh but at present, my money is certainly going on the current model and not waiting
On that picture i,m with you.

Well seeing as Autocar are usually pretty good at "guessing" what new models will look like, and assuming they are in this case then I'll 100% be getting that V12VS before production ceases.
To be honest I think the DB10 is horrible (and yes I've seen one in the flesh), so assuming the new Vantage will resemble it quite closely (probably) then I'm out as the saying goes.
So a V12VS Manual as a keeper and a Ranger as a DD.......job done !

Ive read the article and it seems that all designers on all replacement models start with the premis that the new one has to be longer and wider than the outgoing one. Why? I had to knock out the supporting brick column on my double garage so I could get the current model through the gap. Having seen some photo's on here of readers cars in single garages I hope they bring out a roadster so that they can get out.
The article goes on to say that we are looking at Autumn 2017 for the new Vantage. What happened to Andy reported as saying at Geneva that a new model every 9 months? What is being launched in Winter 2016 then?

I would always take with a large pinch of salt what the dealers say. I really Wonder how much AML share with them until they have to.
Indeed - I was told by the regional manager from AM (at the DB11 launch night last week) that the new Vantage was further away than people thought and may not be until 2018!CSK1 said:
My dealer says new Vantage might be ready for Detroit. He also said no V12 planned, only AMG V8.
"Don't think of waiting for a V12 Sir, give me your V8TT order now."

I do know that the senior staff at Autocar have a good relationship with AML (works both ways), so am inclined to believe their expectation, that the DB11 engine will eventually appear in a top model Vantage. Why would they not have a V12 version, because it has been very popular in the present model, and the engine is already available?

In reality the only improvement of this new design, i.e., tires filling wheel arches, likely won't make it to the actual car. At least that's usually how it goes from concept to reality. I'm sure the V8TT with torque starting at low revs will mean on paper there will be no need for a V12....

I agree with your point, about the flexibility of maximum power with turbocharged engines. However, I do believe that those extra four cylinders certainly sell cars, and the engine is ready now.
As a V8 owner, I am in the 'junior' category. Training bra I think is the term sometimes used by the seniors. -

I really hope that's a CGI interpretation rather than the real thing!

I was attracted into the Aston Martin fold by seeing the initial photographs of the V8 Vantage. The DB9 is of course stunning, but I do like the look of the muscular, squat, shorter rear overhang of the Vantage. All the body lines are beautifully rounded, and there are no parts of the design that are not functional.
Designing a successor was obviously going to be extremely difficult. I agree with contributors to this topic. If the DB10 design had been the first Vantage, I would probably have never bought an Aston Martin.
Whether the car shown in the Autocar image is close to the production model, remains to be seen of course. Remember the story about Mr. Mendes spotting the next Vantage design, when attending a meeting about the Spectre car? It therefore does make sense that the next Vantage looks similar to the DB10, but if it is not a sales winner, that would be a disaster.
I wonder if this recent talk of a later introduction, might have anything to do with the design of the car?

Hate the roof that looks like it isn't attached to the body. Don't like that on the DB11 either, though I'm waiting to see one in the flesh. I thought the DB10 -- in the flesh -- looks good, but not as good as the still-stunning current Vantage. Also, I think it's a crying shame that they've gone to instrument screens. I love the instruments in the current cars -- they are part of what makes the interior so special and so distinct from other cars. Oh, and I have ZERO interest in an Aston with an off-the-shelf AMG engine (if that's what it turns out to be).
I've heard that the AMG 4.0 biturbo is tunable to 700 HP, so there will be no need for a V12V. But no matter the HP, I wonder if they will ever get it to sound like a AM V8? The new turbo Ferrari's don't sound special IMO, so can't wait to see what AM can do with the Mercedes V8. They say turbos destroy the high frequency exhaust notes, maybe that's why the AMG GT sounds more like a truck than a sports

Given what the DB11 sounds like, I've got every faith in Aston.Edited by V8 Vantage GT on Wednesday 6th April 05:35
