Fuel smell on e46 M3 on pushing on - ?

Not mine but a friend's who is going out with my step daughter. Someone elsewhere has mentioned the senders under the rear seat. I should add that it has an AC Schnitzer exhaust so perhaps it needs to be re-tuned because of different CATs (????). Not really my area of expertise.

The smell seems to take place when he is pressing on in the higher revolutions. Maybe he is not letting her warm up fully or it is a poorly fitting aftermarket exhaust.

I told him I would get her jacked up and have a poke around when we are next both free.

I suppose the touble is they have got to that stage where they are a little more affordable and bought by boy racers who tweek them but do not have the money to maintain them.

Any pointers most welcome.

It is a white cabriolet so the writing is possibly on the wall - ex 'hair dressers' come 'look at me' / 'boy racer' and probably known in the M community.

White (as long as it's not a wrap) was an incredibly rare colour.

Chances are, it is a known car. The smell doesn't mean it's a mod related problem, could be something mundane - high milage?

The schnitzer system was is one of the better ones.

Yes, it is not a wrap and I too think that it will be a 'known' car due to colour and it being a cabriolet. With an AC Schnitzer exhaust it was presumably owned by an enthusiast of some sort and not just someone who likes being looked at.

Does anyone know if adding a Schnitzer exhaust would mean the engine would have to be remapped to be properly compatable?????

ACS 'exhausts' were only rear silencer boxes on theses cars, afaik, so unless other mods have been carried out would not 'over fuel' for this reason.

Sounds like its running lean, so the fuel/air ratio is off, plug it in to a diagnostic and see what it reads
