The difference just an aftermarket air filter would make on a modern engine is negligible at best and usually an aftermarket could be more restrictive than the OEM part.

Personally, I would stick to the OEM part and just be done with it. Very little in terms of gains (if any) to warrant thinking about imo.

Save your money for something meaningful that delivers the goods, as a minimum, say sports cats or manifolds...you need to be putting 40bhp on a 1.6 ton car to even start to notice. If you did gain 2bhp from air filters, how would you tell ?

It's also a safety issue. The airboxes sit low in the car and have ducting directly exposed to the front grille. A lot of dust/dirt/debris (even leaves) get into them. The OEM paper filters help prevent all that from getting pulled into the engine. With two airboxes, there's actually a decent amount of airflow with the factory setup, despite using paper filters. I use aftermarket/performance filters on my other vehicles, but not on my Aston.

As for oiled filters, I've never been a fan. When I bought my V8V, it had K&N's installed already. I'm not going to rehash that debate, but I'll stand by my first-hand experience of MAF issues and say my concerns are justified.
