On my '98 Chimaera 450 I came across an anomaly between the plated engine number (37A45P5xxxx) and the actual engine number stamped in front of the left cyclinder bank (37A50P5xxxx). xxxx is the same in both cases.
I'm wondering if anyone out there had seen this before or had some explanation for the difference.?
Cheers,

Cheers,
The engine number on the plate is the correct number for a 450, with the 45 in the number meaning 4.5litres

The number on the block suggests it's a 500 as the 50 represents a 5.0litre.

See the Rimmer Bros Rover number guide here CLICKY

As th actual engine number is the same I'd suggest either the 50 part of the engine number stamped is incorrect or you indeed have a 500 rather than a 450.

It's probably worth contacting Powers Performance and asking them to check their records for the number stamped on the block to tell you what it actually is.

Thx for that, will research a bit further, might also endeavor to measure the stroke to confirm one way or another.
Will post whatever I find out in the near future.
