I love the nutty taste of Basmati.

What recommendations do the PH palates suggest please.

I've been buying Costco Veetee brand rice, but the last 5KG tub was a bit bland.

I am near Birmingham so no shortage of Asian emporia.

Basmati is basmati, I thought; all tastes the same?

The aged stuff is what you want.

When we were having our kitchen replaced last year, i bought some 'microwave' basmati rice — something I wouldn't normally consider buying. In our opinion, the flavour is far superior to any other basmati we've ever tried — including the aged stuff. The cooked grains also seem to be bigger than 'normal'.

I sometimes add a couple of cardamom pods and some cumin seeds to the water. The cardamom makes for great scent and the cumin gives great taste.

I buy the cheapest Basmati in the Indian supermarket. Have never found any difference between it and the expensive stuff.

The main difference between cheap and not cheap is the grains, expensive ones like Tilda filter out broken grains giving a less stodgy finished product. So I saw from a top Indian chef on tv anyway...

This. Sainsburys do an aged basmati and once youve had it you wont go back to the normal stuff
