ooooooooo getting really close now.
Have just finished mapping what's turned out to be the most powerful std 4.5 cerbera on Noble's rollers.
This car made 350 bhp as std on the MBE unit, then mapped with the Emarald and made 381bhp.
Since then I've done a few mods and have now brought the power up to 394bhp, so we're close to the magic number .. stay tuned .. it WILL happen with this car I'm sure

Trying to maximise the airflow at the top end without sacrifcing lower down, for a track car the area from 5k to 7.5 k is the key part. Cliff likes his track days so that's what we're concentrating on. I have another couple of things I want to try out which I'm hoping will tip this car over 400bhp, but the mods so far are incredibly cost effective .. i'm hoping to make a series of mods that guarantee results for sensible costs. total cost for the work on Cliff's car so far would be about 350 pounds. The parts cost about 40-50 pounds and the rest is modifying existing items.
it's also the sort of stuff that could be done at service time on an unmapped car .. ask C1RVY what he thinks of his car with a few of the tweaks on it and some other faults corrected. It gained about 40 odd bhp by maximising the potential of the existing items and correcting a few minor faults.
If the other mods also work well then we could have a drive in - drive out package for under 1500 pounds that guaranteed 400+bhp.
The midrange will never pick up from what it is .. 80lbs/litre is about right for a well tuned 2 valve engine, what you can do though is maximise it's use of airflow to hold the top end and make the big hp numbers that everyone likes so much

So are we saying we trust the calibration of this particular RR then.

Lol .. well it's the one i use all the time so a gain is a gain is a gain. Plus it does seem to tally almost exactly with the Emerald rollers now we've worked out what was causing the difference, so I'm confident we're getting reasonably accurate real-world figures at Noble.
This is the car I'm bringng to the Surrey RR shoot out, so it's in my interests to make it a good one .. I'd really like it to make 400 on both Nobles and Surrey, it's a nice number

Joolz, are these mods you talk of applicable to both 4.2 and 4.5??? The rolling road day should be very interesting, hopefully a clear pattern will emerge between the fettled/non-fettled cars....... Although I sure hope my poor little 4.2 doesn't get totally blown away by all these tweeked 4.5 bruisers that are due to show..... Shame the Phoenix isn't ready yet....

The mods done so far are applicable to both versions .. the next series of mods are 4.5 specific as it involves playing with the silicone hoses.

Guess I've managed to pick out two strong cars so far
. Both always felt very bright at the top end in standard form and on the track great fun to drive. Biggest disappointment has been partial throttle response on the roads and the dreadful 3.5K flatspot which is about cruising speed on the motorway. The Emerald re-map addresses both of these issues with the added benefit of more power. The great thing about working with Joo is he understands exactly what I want from the car as a whole which is exactly why I asked him to look after my race car. Performance is the combination of 4 elements, power, traction, suspension and brakes.
My Cerb was used to develop the latest Joospeed spec Nitron dampers which give better performance on track with a more compliant ride on the road (the original Nitrons were too harsh on uneven roads for me!)The brake upgrade along with suspension was the first thing I did when I bought the car. Most of the time on track is gained here. The next thing is power which will pull times down even further. When the engine is finished the only thing left to look at is traction and that's basically the tyres or electronic aids. The Emerald system is very clever and with software upgrades there are a few avenues opening up. I guess upgradeability is one of the main reasons I've gone the Emerald route. The race car is having one fitted for this season so we should learn a lot about optimising the system during the year.
I'll admit I'm very fussy about my cars (read Joo has got a headache again
)but I really think he is about to crack it with the next set of mods. The magic 400 is just around the corner. Ceejay
