I'm after a PS2 Console, preferably with all leads and controllers, but the only places to buy online seem to be eBay and Amazon, the former I'm dubious about and the latter don't directly sell it so I'm again dubious. Does anyone know of any trusted sources? Every now and again "new" boxed ones pop up. Cheers smile

I have one I've been meaning to sell (now I have the 3 & 4 !). If you are anywhere near me (S Bucks) you are welcome to come and try it out before to check it and offer me what you think it's worth.

I think I still have a dance mat and steering wheel that goes with it, but need to check they are still working as I think they are in a box in the loft :-).

I bought a PS2 from eBay a couple of years ago so I could re-live my childhood and play Tekken! Do a search limited to 10 or 20 miles from your location, that way you can pick it up directly and can feel a bit more confident and save on postage costs. It only cost £24 on auction and it came with controllers and games.

CEX should, maybe not Game, when I took my fat PS3 in as part of a trade for a PS4, they wouldn't accept it, they only take the newer stuff as trade in now.

eBay/Gumtree

If you were in Edinburgh I'd give you mine FOC, even with a few games...

CEX, gumtree or ebay I would say; maybe Cash Converters as a last chance.

Does anyone watch the Lazy Game Reviews youtube channel? The guy has a whole playlist of videos where he goes to thrift stores in the US to uncover all these old games and consoles that people donate to charity stores that you can then buy for pittance. Shame we don't have something similar here; don't think Oxfam/BHF et al carry electronic goods?!

Are you after a cheap one just to mess about on? If so, the above suggestions.

If you're after a nice boxed one to keep then there are some some retro games websites that have them, you'll pay a bit more but it's worth it if you're a collector.

I'm not sure what the crossover point is. I've heard that anything pre-PS2/Xbox looks better on CRT than HD/LCD.

I haven't been able to test a PS2 but I can confirm that my N64 looks miles better on an old CRT than an LCD / LED.

This is part of the problem with older consoles, you kinda need the matching display to get the best of them. When I move and have the space, I'll be unboxing my N64 (and older machines) and hunting down a proper, old school CRT display to play them on.

This is a great link that explains display types for older games and the like, worth a read:
