Hi chaps. It's broken again....fuel pump?

Hi folks..as above really. I was giving it the beans when it stopped working. Engine turns but doesn't fire. I suspect fuel pump. I've checked the inertia switch. I'm replacing the bosch relays tomorrow just in case but...does anyone know the fuel pump part number so I can get one ordered?

As I remember, the fuel pumps are notorious for the cables to them getting corroded.
Might be best to check those are making a good connection before shelling out for a new Pump.

Agreed, the pumps are super reliable.

It is easy to check the pump connections.

Jack up the car, remove the nearside rear wheel, make sure it's safe and you can see the pump bolted to the lower section of the chassis behind the wishbone.

As said above, the terminals corrode and these are only push on spade connectors.

Check for corrosion inbetween the cable and the spade connector and check for corrosion on the terminals themselves.

Often a little recrimping is all that is needed.

If your pump checks OK with direct power connections but you still have a problem then possibly one of the many plug/sockets within the fuel pump circuit could be intermittent.

Shame your not up near me in rugby. Just pulled my old but working pump out today in replacement for a higher flow unit. You would have been welcome to try it,but as others have said there are quite a few things further back down the line that will stop the pump running,is it definitely not running when ignition is first switched on....the winening noise.....in most cases that comes from my other half!!!

Hi a simple thing to try is to pull the relays out and plug them straight back in.
I had the fuel pump stop working after a winter lay up. Bought new relays and replaced. Started straight away! result, but then I thought maybe i would try the old relays again. They also worked, so I guess it was a corroded / lose connection?

Did you fix this Mike?
My guess is it was one of the metal relays. If you haven't fixed it try changing them before you spend any time on the fuel pump.
I was told once if you hold the relays when someone turns on the ignition you should feel them both click and this is how I diagnosed a dead relay on the A34.

Hi chaps all sorted! I replaced the relays but turns out it was the pump however new relays won't harm either! All sorted now. 😀
