Hi

First time poster in this forum.

Over the last few months I have noticed an increased reddening on my face, particularly on the middle of my forehead and my cheeks. The redness is also a little bumpy and slightly dry. I've largely ignored it but after the last few days a few people have noticed and commented asking if I've been on holiday or caught the sun etc which I haven't. You can only see the slight bumpiness if you look very closely or feel it with your fingers. I guess it feels like very mild dry acne to the touch but I don't think it is that.

My background: I am a 44 year old male who drinks virtually zero alcohol, sleeps well, not over weight and am pretty fit. I did suffer with teenage acne up until my early twenties but nothing severe and haven't had acne or spots for the last twenty years at least. However, my face is generally slightly red compared to others, nothing major but looking back at photographs I'm always a little bit red in the face. I and most people put this down to the fact I'm often in the sun and have fairly sensitive skin when the sun is out.

Rosacea has been mentioned. An thoughts?

Try altering you're diet in different ways and see if it helps?

I haven't changed anything. Diet has been largely the same for many years. Not the very healthiest but certainly not unhealthy. It would be fair to say i have sweet tooth but always have done but without the current symptoms.

Could it be Rosacea? I had a few people comment on the colour in my cheeks, and it was also bumpy and weird. GP mentioned it looked like Rosacea while I was there about something else. I've found biooil has helped, and GP prescribed some antibiotic cream to use for a few weeks. It's died down (without the cream yet) anyway and apparently there are triggers. I blame a couple of ski holidays and cold dry air!

Touch of excema? work enviroment changed? changed soap/washing powder? any new pets in the house?

I had a lot of redness/dry skin appear a few years ago and when it appeared my eyes would swell up, lasted about a week then would go with it flaring up again after approx 3-4 months, went through everything trying to find the cause and touch wood I have! for me it looks like the cause is cat dander but now the cats have gone it shouldnt be a problem (just hope that was the cause)

OK. Do you think the bioil helped?

Perhaps I should go see the GP to see if an antibiotic cream of some sort is required.

Like you, mine feels very slightly bumpy to the touch.

Maybe excema but its not itchy at all. Work not changed, not sure about washing powders but will check.

Yes we have a new dog in the house (not had a pet before) BUT the symptoms were present before he arrived and have not change significantly since his arrival.

I agree with above, sounds like Rosacea. Treated with antibiotics cream first line, with advice re sun avoidance (sun block, hat etc..) other differentials includes dermatitis (eczema, or seborrhoeic dermatitis)

I did. I had some left over after trying it on a scar (did nothing so I concluded it was snake oil) and thought I'd try. Don't know if it was coincidence, but I'd had the redness and lumpyness for a few weeks/months and it dramatically reduced in a few days!
