98 Model Changes?

H all,

Can anybody tell me if there where any other changes to the chim in 98 apart from the regressed no plate and different rear lights?

The exact timing of changes isn’t as precise as you think. In the '98 '99 period the front was changed to a Cerbera type, the rear lights became four separate units and the boot hinge became hidden. I don't recall any other changes in that period but you will find cars with any variety of these over this period as stock levels changed at the factory.

Cerbera style front end, wider bonnet vents, spoiler at the windscreen edge of the bonnet, revised alloy switchgear, revised warning light layout, hidden hinges on bootlid, door plungers removed and replaced with buttons under the mirrors, longer bootlid with extended rear lip, secret red handle added, numberplate recess added, rear light cluster revised, chassis coating went from silver to white, brake revamp all the non 500 cars, cooling fans upgraded.

Our car certainly bears out the last two posts! We have *most* of those features - but not all!

The added feature of the revised boot hinges are that it opens further - almost vertical - which makes roof in / out even easier.

My '99 450 has all the features listed. Which is nice.

Woah there... are we talking about the 1997 facelift changes here or 1998/9 changes..?

My car has most of this above but does not have a recessed Numberplate for example (its a 1997 P).. the numberplate recess, hidden hinges and the separate lights at the rear followed the 1997 facelift in 1998/99.

From about the begining of 96 all cars had the 500 chassis and therefore the 500 brakes. Then from about 96-97, the rest of the changes took place. There is no exact date, and around this time it was not uncommon to find cars with some but not all the changes.

The changes all came in stages from 96 onwards generally starting at the front and working towards the back.

A 98-99 car as listed should have the majority of what is listed.
