oil ......hc

hello,advice please.........should i top my car up with mobil 1 oil or use different...i was told it has always had this oil b4,it now has 65000 on clock.....when i have next service is it worth using mobil 1 or changing...and to what.
what are the differences between normal and hc engine,is hc quicker or not?
anyone wanna give me a copy of bible,1st or 2nd edition

Mobil 1 is too thin, what you need is mobil 1 motorsport or equivalent. The bigger Halfrauds sell it. No doubt others will be along shortly with the ratings for you (Mobil 1 is 0w 40, can't remember what motorsport is), and some alternatives.

I have got an HC and I use the mobil 1 motorsport 15-50. It tends to keep the oil pressure more stable and keeps its viscosity when the engine gets very hot in the summer.

As for the HC it is supposed to be quicker than the 4.0, it was replaced by the 4.5 which according to TVR is 285bhp compared with the HCs 280bhp. In reality it all depends on the engine, I have driven 4.0 and 4.0HC that were about the same, but the HC I bought was alot quicker than any of the 4.0 I tested.

Remember the only way to tell the differance by looking is from a sticker on the plenum chamber, which is very easy to change. If your not sure phone the factory and ask, they keep records on all cars.

Err.. top it up with whatever is in it...! If it hasn't got Synthetic in it at the moment, then I wouldn't be topping it up with Synthetic now. (I'd be getting the oil changed actually)

I have a fast blue 4.0 HC and before buying it tested a number of 4.0's and the HC was definitely livelier hence it was the one I bought. You will love it, the noise as you leave a small village with the roof down is great.

As for oil upgrade to Mobil 1 motorsport (this is fully synthetic) but do not put a mineral or semi synthetic oil in it, as they do not mix.

I agree with M@H top it up with whatever it has in iot at the moment. If it has been serviced correctly upto date that should be mobil 1 or Mobil 1 motorsport. I suggest check with whoever last serviced it.

hello thats the problem,i was told it has always had mobil 1 and has sticker under bonnet saying this but reading threads on this forum made me think that this oil is to thin for higher mileage engines,i think i will top up with the mobil motorsport and then when service time use this as well......does this sound ok to everyone!!!rob

I would just do an oil and filter change, then use mobil 1 motorsport. Then you know whats in it.

Try a search on oil - it may take you a year or two to read all the threads but you'll find there are alternatives to Mobil 1. I use Silkolene now (Pro S 10W/50) and IMHO it's better than Mobil 1 m/sport.

OOoo ok..

If Mobil 1 is whats in it then bung some more in, its not like adding 1/2 litre of Motorsoprt against 1/2 litre of normal Mobil 1 into 4 1/2 litres of either is going to make a dramatic difference.

Then when you get the oil changed, go for something a bit thicker like Motersport or Millers Full Synthetic.
