Whilst perusing Youtube for general car stuff, eventually this came up.

Having been around the back of Works when i picked my car up, you forget they built them there as well pre-Gaydon days!

I was half expecting to see the proverbial factory cat wandering in and out of the half finished cars! Nice vid though.

Thank you for your post, Smudge.

I have collected a few internet films of the NP factory, most of which were clearly filmed during factory tours. This one is a more professional production, so perhaps it might have been an AML commissioned film.

It is good that AM historical films are available for us to see. Very labour intensive work of course. Imagine the high price of a Vantage, if they were still built that way.

Most left when Ford stopped the engine build and Bez closed the factory. Only to have to subcontract to make the 1-77.

Nice find. Interesting to see a twin supercharged engine at 4:45 into the video - which model did that end up in?

Great background on the build process and just 20 years ago! How things have progressed.

I cannot begin to imagine the skill needed to roll aluminium sheet and produce a body panel without any form to go by. Simply incredible skills.

Great video. Some of the people have moved to Works as they are still making new panels for the old DB's. Not so long ago, they still built the Newport Pagnell Vanquish like that, the last truely handbuilt production Aston Martin. I'd take a late model NP Vanquish S over a new VanquishII any day.

Fantastic video! CSK, I agree about the NP Vanquish -- it's a truly glorious thing and as the last of the Newport Pagnell cars it has a very special place in AM history.

The 1999 V8 Vantage Le Mans had the twin supercharged 600hp V8 engine. It is still the post 1973 V8 Vantage I first think of whenever I hear some one say V8 Vantage.

I couldn't agree more. However the Vanquish was not handbuilt in the same way as the old DB's, ie made on the wooden former's. The Vanquish had hand-finished, Superformed aluminium panels.

just googled a little more about that V8 Vantage Le Mans - what a beast.

I then stumbled across a little more nostanga - from Jeremy in his early TG days - driving a V8 Vantage - he quotes "a Rolls Royce with attitude" ...
