Ok so ive been looking for a 996 for a few months now.
Ideally I would like a C4 black coupe witch ive found the car is a 2002 model with 110k 3.6
But ive also found a really clean looking C2 98 model with 76k on the clock. 3.4
Now I didn't really want a silver car but it looks a lot cleaner than the black C4 and its done a lot less miles.
What's your thoughts? Both cars on that well known auction site.

I personally prefer the 6.1 C2 as it's a cleaner design and rear wheel drive. But in any case, at that age of a car I'd go by condition any day of the week

Sounds like a 996 Broomstick would be more up your street...

Was it the 4 wheel drive you really wanted or a different reason for wanting the 4?

I agree wth the poster above to go for the better condition car, providing it's definitely the model you are after!

C2. The last of the 911 platforms that are perfect for tuning. Lovely chassis

RWD always, unless you plan to off-road?

C2 or C4 won't make much difference at normal speeds on normal roads. Both have advantages and disadvantages. But 1998 vs 2002 look different and have different specs. Which do you prefer the look of? How important are looks? Each engine has its weaknesses. They're quite different cars in many ways. I'd view both and see what you think (but without seeing either the 3.4 sounds more my cup of tea).

The c2 looks nicer out of both these cars and it has less mileage and a gt3 kit
but on the other hand the c4 or is black which I'd rather over silver.
I thought the Carrera 4 would be more sought after and hold its value better it's also four years younger but done 30000 miles more than the c2.

996.1 for me. Lower miles. Gt3 kit. C2 will be a better drive and more likely to be sought after in future. Silver on an older car hides dents and scratched better than black. Engine probably less likely to go wrong.

Got links?

Was the silver car the one in Cornwall? I don't know the car but spotted the ad a few weeks ago. It stood out as an early, cable throttle car. Although not stated, with the gt3 kit and what looked like lowered suspension it could have been a rare sport pack car. If so, if straight and all checked out that would seem to have been a very good buy. But... It's marked as sold.

My priority would be condition and maintenance regardless of mileage. In an ideal world I would have a C2 and C4 in my garage and prefer the simplicity of the 996.1.

I have '98 C4 on M030 and love it. I bought it because its balance comparable to my 944 turbo on fast road.

I had a similar dilemma, in the end I decided on the purer looking 996.1 C2.

I have started to modify it very lightly.....

1. Alloys repainted in "one off" personalized colour and diamond cut lip
2. Calipers refurbished and painted (powder coated)
3. Waiting to paint the hubs!
4. Sports exhaust
5. K&N cold air induction
6. Soon to have front end painted to get rid of all stone chips

It is beautiful to drive......most people say they don't notice the difference between C2 or C4.....I did and the lighter feeling C2 is sublime!

Just my 2p's worth!
