Afternoon all,

I've just heard from my bodyshop that they're struggling to get hold of the Spectraflair Lite pigment that was used on my respray a couple of years ago. The original supplier says it's no longer made and has no stock.

So.... anyone got any good ideas of where to start searching to see if any other suppliers still have stock. A search on the original company producing it (jdsu.com) seems to now redirect to a software/internet company.

In the worst case scenario, if a small section was going to be repainted under insurance but the pigment could no longer be found/matched, would the insurance be forced to pay for a full respray?

Hi Dave,

It was originally from here: http://www.outrageousfinishes.co.uk/products/spect...

They did a "Lite" version which was around 1/6th of the cost of the full stuff and sold by the litre. I'm not totally sure whether it's just a much weaker mix of the full strength stuff though.

I've emailed David at S&D and the current painted Rick is also looking into it for me, but it's gettting my a bit worried as i'd hate to do work and end up with a slight mismatch of colours.

I was going to say that I had mine done at S&D last year and Dave mentioned Spectraflair light then.
Good luck.

Spectraflair Lite is still listed on the Outrageous Paint Company Website. JDSU will still be making Spectraflair as it is used in many other products such as the holograms on Banknotes and Debit/Credit cards.
I put some in the laquer for my Chimaera moonraker black wheels, amazing look.
I will email you my number so I can try and help.

Thanks Malcolm thumbup

Outrageous have confirmed they discontinued the Lite version 18months ago and current googling is struggling to find what's happened to JDSU as their website seems now to be a cable/networking company and the original emails for their paint products has returned as invalid.

Am I right in that you're working at S&D?
David has replied and said he'll take a look early next week for me so hopefully I can get a good steer on what's possible.

It's getting difficult, I am getting really cautious about buying spectraflair coloured cars. Malcolm S&D and http://www.autorefinishing.co.uk/ and http://specialistpaints.com/contact.php, have proved helpful to me in the recent past. Good luck.

As Outrageous discontinued the Spectraflair Lite I wonder if they could let you have the formulation so someone else could mix some for you. That said the Spectraflair powder is available in various particle sizes so a match would depend on which size the Lite was made.
Yes I do work at S&D and here to help when I can. I know when we buy the TVR strength Spectraflair Powder it costs many thousands of pounds for the minimum amount which I think is a kilo.
