Mind going blank
Discussion
Hi, bit of an embaressing topic.
I have suffered with bouts of generalised anxiety which seems to come on for a month or so and go away for a week.
Lately i am really suffering at work mainly. I have a job which is generally monotomous but sometimes it gets a bit more difficult. Ive done the job for years and deep down know what i need to do.
But when something happens that i have to deal with/arrange i freeze, my mind goes blank and i feel so so stupid, i end up making mistakes because im that worried about messing something up my mind goes dead and i end up making more mistakes.
I dont know what to do? Ive never been on meds or seen a doctor about anxiety but have suffered for 10 years now on and off.

I would suggest doing something mentally stimulating like even maths problems like Sudoku or crosswords. I am a student but also work in retail which can be very boring. I oft find that I need something to keep my brain ticking over, such as mulling over things to do with my degree, or even long division. I also read, which seems to help. I feel that exercising your mind is important, too.
Are you sleeping and eating well also? Any issues at home, or anything that is troubling you in the background?

I'm the same. I don't know about you but I always end up completely cured of it whenever i'm drinking and become slightly tipsy however obviously this isn't a good long term solution.I have suffered with bouts of generalised anxiety which seems to come on for a month or so and go away for a week.

Sounds like anxiety/OCD.
Doctor will likely prescribe Citalopram. Take it. It WILL work.
Ive been concerned about starting an antidepressant but im getting to the point where im a shadow of my former self and wondering whether to go down that route.Doctor will likely prescribe Citalopram. Take it. It WILL work.
I got diagnosed last year at the age of 32 with Adult Attention Deficit Disorder and Generalised Anxiety Disorder to boot. I was eventually prescribed Ritalin and from r the first time in my life I felt settled and for lack of a better term 'grounded'.
I hadn't realised his much of a loose cannon I'd been all my life, and what I've achieved since is nothing short of astounding for me.
A Dr really can and will make a difference, and ffs don't be embarrassed.
Good luck
The long term solution is to retire and live in a beach hut somewhere warm. It's not the most useful solution, though. A more useful solution is to have tools up your sleeve to help manage stress. Meditation, tai chi, yoga.
Or try the Headspace app (quite a few PHers use it - that's how I learnt about it).
I prefer this app: http://amzn.to/1qwd0zp - it takes a more down-to-earth approach eg meditating while commuting to work through a busy town centre!? It does make sense though when you hear what the person is saying.

I hope i dont get bad side effects from the meds.
You won't. You might feel a bit queasy for a few days.I hope i dont get bad side effects from the meds.
Look, put it like this. You likely have a chemical imbalance in your brain. There is a med which fixes it.
If you had diabetes would you argue about taking Insulin. No of course you f
king wouldn't.DOCTOR.

Go to Wikipedia and look for SSRI.
Seriosuly, GO TO THE BL00DY DOCTOR.
They see people with this problem EVERY SINGLE DAY. These drugs DO work. It may seem odd, but we are merely a bag of water and chemicals, and if one is not in balance then we feel s
t (see also insulin, testosterone etc etc)Don't ask me how I know they work, but they save lives, and give people back their sanity.

Depression, anxiety and OCD have all been linked to lack of Serotonin. Meds like Citalopram are called SSRI's (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) - they mean that your body has more Serotonin in it, which means that your symptoms of anxiety are dealt with.
Go to Wikipedia and look for SSRI.
I will have a lookGo to Wikipedia and look for SSRI.
Can i ask, have you been through similar yourself?
