Help, any1 help me view a bike Saturday in Basingstoke

Sorry for the random message but ive found a mountain/trail bike that I'm looking to buy 2nd hand but the 'expert' I was going to take with me can't make it and I've really no idea what I'm looking at.

Cant help you in person, but do you have links to an online advert that you can share? People might be able to give you some tips if they know what bike/type of bike it is. If its 1000 2nd hand, im guessing it was something quite high-end and pricey when new??
If nothing else, hopefully your "expert" friend will have a chain measuring tool he can lend you to bring. Its literally a bit of metal that will tell if the chain has stretched, or is getting close to being to stretched. If it has, it suggests the seller isnt too hot on his servicing and maintenance duties, so be wary - as a stretched chain will end up wearing out the cassette and cranks, which are much more expensive than a new chain.

Even on high end bikes the parts like chain, cassette,and chain rings are consumables amd you expect them to wear out so i wouldnt worry too much unless its running sram 1x11 rear cassette as they are pricey,xt stuff is reasonable at £15 for a chain,£30 for cassette £20 for chain rings.
If they look worn (google what a worn one looks like )then use as a bargaining tool for a bit off.

Again a botton bracket is around 15-40 quid depending on what one,you dont have to replace with high end,headset is around the same tho usually you just have to replace bearings which are even cheaper.
