The latest addition to the Horney Fleet. An accidental purchase.

a 1996 VR Ltd. It's missing a few bits like it's original leather interior but it was cheap and I'd been looking for a cheap MX5 for a while. Plans are simple. Tidy it up and enjoy.

Third set of wheels in a week! These are keepers though.

Went to fit the coilovers last night but they're goosed as at least two of them are leaking. Going to get hold of GAZ and get them refurbished.

Picked up and fitted the passenger door I got from Autolink and took it to Sunday's first Mighty5s.com meet.

To complete the build of this car into a cracking little B-road hack I'm on the look out for:

A strut brace
A Safety 21/Cusco 4 point roll bar
An OE front lip
A fruity exhaust of some kind
Ducktail spoiler

I managed to score a set of free Gaz coilovers which I need to get sent to them for a refurbish as they have a couple of blown seals and are leaking.

I've a nose cone from the same car the passenger door came from as the one on the car was red and has been resprayed very badly and it's peeling.

After all that with a bit of spit and polish it should be a cracking little motor. I'm really loving having an MX5 to use for the daily commute in the sun, it's been too long as the Supercharged car is just too hardcore for sitting in traffic at either end of my journey.

Turns out the last owner hadn't bothered to tighten up the battery terminal clamps. The live was loose which was the problem. All good again now.

Fitted some classic style chrome door mirrors:

And some tuner nuts:

Also ordered 4 x Uniroyal RainExpert3's as the semi slicks are epic in the dry, but well this is Britain, how often will that be?

Update time.

Firstly, took it to JapDay at Castle Combe where it ran perfectly and I got sunburnt. Epic day.

Secondly, stuck it on the rollers at the Dyno Day. It made a disappointing 99bhp at the wheel. It seemed to have a misfire as well which was odd as it's never had one before. Not massively fussed at this point as it drives beautifully and puts strongly. I'll shortly be giving it all new fluids, leads and plugs so it'll be interesting to pop it back on afterwards and see what difference that makes.

Thirdly, when I bought it I knew it was a bit rotten and would need some welding for the MOT. Well the MOT ran out on the 20th so I strong armed Skuzzle into giving me a hand to patch the old girl up.

Drivers side which was the worst.

There the only photos I have at the moment. Both sides are now stone chipped and ready for the MOT on Tuesday. Once it's passed I'll strip the stone she back off and properly tidy the patches up, reapply the stone ship and rattle can some of the Merton red over the top. Important thing is it wasn't too bad under the outer skin and it should be all good for the next few years. The rest of the car is rot free so I need to get under there and underseal it all before the winter.

Fourthly, sourced a strut brace for free.

Finally in this update, I got round to stripping down to GAZ coilovers I acquired a while back ready to be sent off to GAZ for a refurb. Should hopefully have them back in just over a week.

Still got lots to do. I haven't got round to fitting the better nose cone or OEM lip that I bought for it. I need to buy a new radiator and fit that as well.

Next up for this wee beauty is 3 days blatting round the Evo Triangle towards the end of June. I better pull my finger out!

I imagined some convincing was needed to get Skuzzle to weld the thing for you if their previous experiences with red MX5s are to go by... wink You must be relatively near to Winch then I am guessing. I used to work there and am due to start working in Alresford soon...

He'll do anything for curry and a couple of beers. wink

I'm up in Basingstoke so it's a 20 min hop down to Skuzz HQ.

I think they charge approx £25 per damper + VAT and shipping. You send them off with a note with your contact details and then they ring you with a quote to get them sorted.

Update time.

Ahead of the planned 3 day Wales adventure I decided I need to do a few things. Firstly to make it more fun to drive I fitted the Sparco Sprint 5 seat and Momo Prototipo steering wheel out of the Sprint car.

I then changed the radiator and heater hoses.

Then to Wales which was an awesome 3 days messing about on incredible roads with a ton of CB radio banter.

Finally tonight went down to skuzzles and @marc87 gave me a hand fitting the freshly rebuilt GAZ coilovers and OE front lip.

Looks so much better I think you'll agree.
