2011 Q7 TDi humming noise/vibration over 70 mph
Discussion
Hi Folks, wondering if anyone can help me troubleshoot - basically between 71-75 mph I'm getting a noticeable humming noise and vibration through the pedals & steering wheel, only when under drive, nothing when coasting off the throttle. Seems to be coming from the front right. I had the front wheels re-balanced without success. If anyone can throw any light on what it might be please let me know, cheers

I'd start by looking at the tyres. I once spent a fortune on CV joints etc for a quattro in these circumstances. Changed the front tyres, vibration instantly vanished.
Cheers for the reply, this started happening around about the time I put 2 new Pirelli P-Zero tyres on the front, I thought they were exactly the same as the ones they replaced but I just noticed they have a slightly different tread pattern, damn. I was thinking along the lines of CV joint or drive shaft as the vibration only happens when on the throttle, please don't tell me I need to spend another £440 replacing the new tyres

Nah they're the same front & back, just checked google and it seems I'm not the only person with vibration issues with Pirelli P Zeros. f

Try a front to back swap. It won't cost anything, will rule out/prove a tyre problem and manufactures recommend best (newest) tyres on the back.
kIf it is a tyre problem take it back to the supplier/fitter and see what they say.
