After a good 10 years of being an Iphone user I am finally getting pissed off with Apples lack of customer service - it's almost impossible to get a Genius bar appointment online and one has to walk in and wait 3-4 hours to get seen to - getting ridiculous.

I've been looking at Andriod phones and a mate introduced me to his new Vertu Signature Plus - a lovely bloody thing made of titanium, leather and sapphire crystal! The newer ones run up to date android firmware and have touchscreens - I remember Vertu from 10 years back when they were bricks but they now look amazing!

Yes they are £4000+ but they include an amazing concierge service worth (£2k free for the first year) so in effect for the first year of use the phone is just about a little more than double the price of the top end Iphone 6S.

He has managed to get himself in to FA cup finals, Wimbledon finals and Rugby finals at not so ridiculous prices and has managed same day bar and restaurant reservations in Central London for places that have absolutely no spaces on a Saturday night - all through Vertu Concierge. It was his girlfriends birthday and he had no idea what to buy so he asked them to suggest things up to a value of £1000 they they sent him a lovely portfolio of suggestions - they then organised to buy this for him and have it delivered along with flowers at 8am on her birthday! Crazy st!

Has anyone here got one and what are your thoughts? Seems pretty impressive - similar to the Amex Centurion card services/perks.

My boss has one. Its covered in fancy materials but underneath its a cheap piece of android crap IMO. The operating system just isnt as good as IOS in my opinion.

He swapped to an iphone 6 after about 2 months.

He got it free mind.

Indeed!

Back to the original question: of course it's not worth it if you're looking at it in monetary terms. The only possible reason to have a Vertu, similar to a Centurion, is so that you can say that you have a Vertu.

It's a lifestyle thing? If one enjoys concerts, dining out in new bars and clubs etc, and likes to watch live sports I think it would be a great tool?

Definitely a lifestyle thing. Couple of my customers have them but I'm fairly sure one has an iPhone too! You're paying for the service and a luxuriously decorated phone (which is just android of some flavour underneath) so it's not really a decision about technology as such.

Ignoring all the Vertu side (which is all well and good if you can afford it) this is just nonsense. Impossible to get a genius appointment online? I did wonder if me not being London based effected this, but there's 20 spaces available this Monday for the Covent Garden Apple Store, arguably the most busy one. Of course you do have to wait with the peasants who can't afford £4k on a Vertu however!

They also offer an express service for a small fee (think it was around £30) where they will send you a replacement phone, then you send them your faulty one. You don't even have to leave the house. Saying the Customer Service is bad when it's one of the highest rated out there is just baffling.

So you agree with me, then? If it's the lifestyle you want, which is the £2k concierge service, then just pay that rather than an extra £2k for a blingy phone on top of it. Which is, at the end of the day, an extra £2k to be able to say 'I've got a Vertu'.

No criticism intended or implied, btw. I'm firmly of the opinion that you should spend your money on whatever you want and be damned what anybody else thinks.

It's not bad it's ridiculous. I have just checked the app on my phone and the next available appointment at my nearest Apple Store is next Wednesday at 3pm then Thursday at 9am -

Couple of weeks ago my Iphone froze and wouldn't anything. Apple tech guys on the phone told me to restore - I did and then lost all my data and contacts as the phone will now not allow my icloud back up to synch to my phone. I use my phone for business so I'm well and truly fked as the next available appointment is a week away. I call up customer services again - they agree to do your much loved express replacement for £50 but wait they want to block £799 a cost of a new 128gb Iphone on my credit card - they then ask me to send back my faulty phone BUT hang in there - if there are cosmetic damage or any visible scratches on my phone they will keep my £799 as I have effectively bought a new phone - what a fkin joke! Agree if my phone was cracked but to hold me to ransom for cosmetic damage is taking the P big time!

Oh and Why not have the same courier who delivered the replacement phone pick up my old iphone? Why block £799 of my hard earned money for no fault of mine when I have already spent that on a bloody phbone!?!?

Oh I am then told the "express replacement" can take up to 5 days - how the fk is that express then?

Similar happens to my daughters iphone - we decided to go in to the Apple Store as were due to fly out on holiday the next day - sorry sir no appointments - after a bit of shouting and crowd gathering the manager agree to look in to the issue - go have a browse in the shopping centre we will call you when ready - 2 hours later no call - 3 hours no call - 4 hour I went back - still nothing - shouted again and we were finally looked at -

Great customer service? You serious mate? I was an Apple fan boy just like you were - in fact almost all the gadgets in my house are Apple but I think it's time to move on - Apple are a fking joke now.

Wow that escalated quickly!

Just bear in mind ou may be getting a concierge service, but they wont know how to fix an android phone which is what it is.

I didn't think you were criticising at all buddy. The concierge service as I understand is run by the same people who run it for the Amex guys - Platinum or Centurion however I understand you can't buy this service unless you have an Amex or a Vertu product? If this is not the case I would like to hear more. Looking at the handsets themselves the vertu phones seemed to have come a very long way since the old days when they were repacked Nokias - hence why I was looking for ownership experience (both the phone and concierge!).

Quick question - you say the concierge service is worth 2k, and is free for the first year. What does is cost in year 2 - is it 2k? This might break the man maths...

I've used the express service before, the phone arrived next day, and they said as long as my phone was eligible for a warranty replacement it would cost me nothing. My phone had a few scratches and a small dent on, no problems. They put a hold on your card for the obvious reason that they are sending you a new phone. The hold was released 2 days later, and the same person who delivered the phone also took the old one.

You can't just walk in to the store and expect to be seen, that's like turning up at a Dentists and demanding they see you. If there's spaces they will try their best, but the service is so popular it's rarely not fully booked. I was there this week to replace my water damaged phone. Okay they didn't see me for 20 mins after my appointment time but it's not like they were just standing around, they were busy, that's fine. £230 later and I walked out with a refurb phone with 90 days warranty.

That same phone had everything my iCloud backup had, and I'm not sure why it didn't work for you, but it was like nothing had happened.

Seems like we have different tolerances and expectations (probably proven by the fact you're considering a concierge service, where I can just about afford to buy the iPhone outright). But you do sound like you're just being a bit of a big man ahole who goes in and shouts and swears, makes a scene and expects these poor employees to bend to your will. I can't help but feel most of your issues come down to yourself and your attitude. Just book an appointment, wait patiently for that to arrive, go to the store, again wait patiently, understand the employee is a mere mortal like you, treat them like a decent human being, get your issue sorted and be on your way.

It's besides the point, the Vertu is an interesting device, but I just couldn't get along with paying that amount of money purely because they've priced it to be exclusive (I am of course aware Apple do this to some extent). I couldn't really get on with Android though when I've tried it. Might be worth picking up a cheaper similarly spec'd Android phone to see if you get on with the OS? Not sure what tweaks Vertu make, but at the end of the day it's just Googles OS.

Typical school holiday behavior - not long to go now son - going back Monday or is it Tuesday?

I frankly give a st what you think I sound like - it's your own fked up opinion. If I pay £799 for what is meant to be a premium product (Apple would like us to think so) then I don't expect to be without a phone for more than 24 hours especially if my phone is under warranty. If I had a £250 one plus two I wouldn't expect so much in terms of customer service (although I heard they are even better than Apple!)

What I do know is as long as there are fanatical fan boy kids like you around Apple will continue to be a very profitable company regardless of how crap their customer service is.

I have been told the majority upgrade their phones after 12 months - just like we all do - a replacement will come with another 12 months free (in some cases 18 months).

Apple has sold nearly a billion iphones. They are not premium, they are not special, they are run of the mill phones. Expecting anything else isnt going to meet your expectations.

There is one for every 7 people on earth. You are not going to get anything close to Vertu levels of customer service.

As phone's they arent really all that but the concierge service is pretty good.

You could probably get the service cheaper elsewhere but it can be useful if you use it enough and if you use it a lot you will spend a fortune.

Even my wife wouldn't try to justify a Vertu! That's the limit for me. IMHO Vertu is the gold plated Lambo parked outside Harrods.

But hey, each to their own!
