HEATER COMING ON

my car is bmw 323i v reg with auto aircon set up. everytime i start the car the car heater comes on.even if i had turned heater off before stopping the car. am i doing something wrong?

I had similar problem on 2000 535i, apparently a pin on heater valve can get loose and heating goes on and won't go off. Easily fixed by dealer. Apparently is common fault with 5's not sure if same set up on 3's.
