As above really. Can anyone tell me what is happening and why?

I have an A180 rented from Hertz in Portugal. I can't find how to change the language to English, so the myriad of messages I'm getting are all in Portuguese.

Three times yesterday the car went into some sort of safe mode with an alarm and a message saying something like "Non continuar por ???? collisione protect" flashing on the central display. The car loses (cuts?) power drastically for a few seconds. It's like stalling or trying to drive in 5th gear at 5mph. It then clears and picks up. A little scary on the N125!

It seems to happen when braking to a halt. I'm wondering if there's a faulty motion-sensor or similar somewhere.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is the "collision protection" manually defeatable? Where in the labyrinthine menu system is the language setting?

It's not easy for me to take the car back. If I can get around this issue that would be way better.

Any help gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Evidently this is the anti-collision radar triggering some sort of "pre-safe" configuration which puts the car into "limp mode" with minimal power etc. It happened multiple times in two short journeys and I am amazed that I wasn't rear-ended as I crawled onto a roundabout.

Looks like this happens a lot!

I am - frankly - amazed and appalled. The car I have is simply unsafe to drive.
