I'm looking to make the jump to the 1d range. Realistically the 1ds mkII is out of my price range, however it seems that the 1ds is still availble and for similar prices to the new 1d mkII.

How does the 1d mkII compare against the original 1ds (aside from the sensor size and frame buffer size). Is the mkII hardware light years ahead or is it a subtle upgrade.

I guess what I'm trying to achive is; I'd like a full frame dslr but I can't stomache the £5K for 1ds mkII.

1Ds will lose out to the 1D II in the following areas:

1) AF performance
2) More noise at high ISO levels
3) lack of ETL-II flash
4) not many around
5) lower frame rate

On the plus side, it's full frame and higher resolution.

I've not used either, but have just gone for a 1Ds II so have been doing a fair bit of research on these bodies recently.

If I had to chose between a 1D II and 1Ds, I'd go for the 1D II.

Thanks Ed,

I've seen a couple on ebay (s/h) going quite cheap and though it may be an option.

Be interested to hear how you get on with 1ds mkII, it really is the daddy!

A guy at work is looking for one too, and most of the 1Ds auctions that he's found have ended up being scams...
