Caffeine - I can't take it anymore!
Discussion
I used to love a coffee, tea, cans of Red Bull/Rockstar etc. I spent 10 years working in an office and kind of got used to 6 cups of coffee or tea a day no problem.
But in the last couple of years caffeine seems to be disagreeing with me... A Starbucks cappuccino will have me shaking like a s
tting dog, give me a headache and make me feel really jittery. Plus I was having trouble sleeping.
So because of this, I've cut back on my caffeine consumption to virtually nothing, I avoid fizzy drinks that have caffeine in, and only drink decaf tea and coffee. The problem now is that just one cup of non-decaf coffee or tea in the afternoon or evening, or a can of fizzy drink will make me have a really bad nights sleep.
It's a real pain because I love coffee and other drinks that happen to have caffeine in them, but seemingly can't have them anymore.
Anyone else been though this?

Yep. Used to have up to 10 cups of proper coffee a day, stopped for a while and now if I have a cup after 1pm I won't be asleep until after 3am. I now restrict myself to 2 cups a day and both early in the morning.
Yes that's exactly how I am.Enjoying a late evening coffee in a restaurant after a meal is now just a distant memory!

Although when I'm around people who can't go for more than 2 hours without becoming 'desperate' for a coffee it kind of makes me think I'm doing the right thing.

I've stayed well away from tea/coffee partly for this reason (but also because I just don't like it). I figure it's got to be better to be able to function by eating properly and getting a good rest than relying on stimulants. slipstream 1985 said:

I've just cut right back on caffeine too, since last Thursday. Just trying to drink decaf coffee, normal & decaf tea, and more water.
A few cups of coffee, when I was younger, used to give me the shakes and palpitations, now it doesn't because I suppose I got used to it. But I am convinced I feel more knackered when I drink more caffeine, and when my eyelid started twitching like a mad man a couple of weeks ago I had to try something!
Had four mornings of headaches which got better with some painkillers and a cup of tea. I think I don't slump as much in the afternoons now.
Problem is I love the taste of coffee, and I like the ritual of making a proper cup too.

I've done the same, cut back enormously last year (I'm 37 now). One coffee in the morning which I take in to the office with me in a thermos mug and a sole cup of tea of coffee in the afternoon, no later than about 15:00-15:30. Decaf tea on hand if I want a cuppa in the evening (rare). I don't do much by way of fizzy drinks (normally sugar-free squash or plain water) but if I do it's the caffeine-free diet stuff.
Makes a big difference for the better I believe.
