Anyone any idea how the hell you play music from iPhones through the car radio? It's a '62 A5 S-line. From what I can work out, Bluetooth covers calls, and is very good in fairness, but it doesn't seem to support music. It's got HD slots etc in glove box, but I can't even see an aux input area, which seems ridiculous for an A5?

I have 2G high MMI and I fitted AMI on Friday lunchtime which allows full control of iPods/iPhones/USB drives etc... Via the regular MMI controls and steering wheels with all album and song info ... was £349 for the AMI and £32 for the AMI lightning cable and took literally 30mins in my lunch (in the office car park to strip and fit and rebuild

Do you by any chance have a link at all to the system you bought?

This is the AMI unit I've used:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/301891260241

Audi Music Interface AMI A4 A5 A6 A8 Q5 Q7 4E0 035 785 F RETROFIT KIT NEW !!!

And this is the iPhone lightning cable:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/141947713703

Audi VW Apple Iphone 5 5s 6 Lightning Cable Lead 4F0051510 AC AMI MMI Genuine 😍

There are non-oem cables available for much less but I went with genuine.

I stripped the AMI from its housing to leave just the module controller box which I've mounted behind the glove box (six screws to remove) and then ran the cable down into the passenger footwell which is the Velcro attached to the under side of the glove box/upper footwell housing so is hidden and then with a lightning extension cable (1m) ran this to the armrest for ease of connectivity to my handset

Thanks for that, appreciate it. So surprised that it's not compatable as standard.

You'll probably have an Aux input under the armrest. Bluetooth streaming can be done with HDD Nav which is now standard.

If you do not have AMI cable in glove-box, maybe you need one, check with Audi if it has AMI? if not you can play music through Bluetooth. Should be within the Bluetooth settings, allows you to play music from devices.

I don't think there's an aux anywhere. There is something in the arm rest, but it looks more like a cig lighter/voltage adapter. The unit in the glove box looks similar to that in the above eBay link. I'm fairly sure the music can't be played via blue tooth. I've tried all the settings and can't see anything.

So under the telephone settings is Bluetooth, go into the Bluetooth setting and you can see the Bluetooth Audio Player if you have the facility... Hope this helps?

Ah, I don't think I have those options. Looks like it'll be leads and glove box units then!
Thanks for your help though.

This?

If so, then you got the AMI (= Audi Music Interface). You should see ""AMI" or similar under Media/Source in the MMI menus. You just need the adapter cable from that to your iPhone or whatever. Downside is you'll need to put your iphone in the glovebox. Upside is that it will charge it... You can get bluetooth dongles that emuylate iPhones and plug into the AMI. That's likely to be the best way of getting it to work.

Facelift A4s can stream bluetooth without AMI - I'm guessing your A5 is pre-facelift?

I've got a Kufatec Fiscon bluetooth retro-fit kit in mine which does A2DP audio streaming from my iPhone and integrates reasonably well with the MMI system.

Also have the AMI in the glovebox which I've got a USB stick attached to. No AUX in the armrest though!

Yea, spot on, that's what I've got. That's good news then, just the cable needed. They don't do longer ones then so you can run the wire into the arm rest?
Thanks a lot for the help, pretty obvious now when I look at it.
Not sure if mine is per facelift of not. 62 plate...

Not that I know of. But, you could get iPhone dock and lightning extender cables and do it that way.

I'd probably stick one of these on though: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ViseeO-Tune2Air-WMA3000A-B...

Music over Bluetooth sounds dire. Get a cable, the sound quality is much better.

That depends on your age, quality of hearing and overall pernicketyness. I'd bet most people would struggle to tell them apart in a true blind test in a studio environment, let alone in the audio hell-hole that is a car.

you dont need a longer AMI lead, just a lightning extension (you can get them upto 8m that I have seen) which is what I use connected to the AMI Lightning cable

Tune2Air isnt great for the money personally and there is a large amount of interference present from the car electronics and can also cause clashes between the builtin BT for calls

Hi,

I have just bought an AMI cable to plug my iPhone 7 into and then connect to the slot in the glove box. However when I do this it still shows as 'not supported', also the same when I use a USB to AMI. Anyone know why this is and what I can do to resolve? I also don't have an aux Input in the car nor does Bluetooth allow me to play music.

I have an Audi A5 2010
