Help removing ceiling paper.
Discussion
George(ina) - my wife and I re-papered a ceiling recently and we DID use a steamer.
It's best to wear long sleeves and I found that if you don't hold the steamer in the same place for too long, and don't hold it above your head (!), you should be OK.
It's a messy job, though....

If you don't want to use a steamer:
Is it painted? If not, a standard flower sprayer (get the pump type if you've got a lot to cover) filled with warm/hot-ish soapy-ish water should release the adhesive enough.
If it is painted, you could score the paper first with a fork or such like (criss-cross scoring) - just be careful not to score too deep and damage the underneath.
Oh, and don't go mad with the soaking as you could damage the plaster-board/plaster. But you'd have to soak it good and proper to do that!

How big is the room ??
Plasterboard (from a builders merchant not homebase) in 8' by 4' sheets is only £4 and you could get that up about 10 minutes a sheet
Or 1 sheet in about an hour with various stoppages for tea etc when hungover
I'm removing 2cms of paper an hour at the moment, might be due to coffee breaks

It is painted, several coats by the looks of it, my plasterer is coving it and skimming it Monday.
Guess I'll give it a whirl with a steamer then.
Use the dodgy builders' technique, it's great.
Score or perforate the paper with an appropriate roller. Fill the steamer reservoir to the brim and put it on the floor in the middle of the room. Shut the windows and doors to the room and go to the pub for an hour. When you come back the paper should be throwing itself off the ceiling - if not, refill reservoir and go back to the pub. You get pissed AND the paper comes off easily.
Disclaimer - if you then have damp problems in that room don't come crying to me...

You mean too much time on Gassing station....
Get back up that ladder......

I got one of these from B&Q (only £10) and it's far better than scoring with a scraper.
It makes loads of tiny holes in the paper without marking the ceiling and then spray loads and loads of hot, soapy water. Leave it for around 10 mins to soak in and then spray some more soapy water whilst you peel off, it should come off quite easily.
Also quick tip before you re-skim, use a 4:1 water/PVA mix on the ceiling to allow the new plaster to key onto the old.

I'd recommend this, unless of course you have paper on the walls that you want to stay there!!!
