Megasquirt to Emerald K6 ECU Upgrade
Discussion
Hi Peter, I'm planning on taking the car to Kits & Classics at some stage for a health check/power run, and looking through the K&C website they offer this upgrade and provide reasons why it would be advantageous.. So just curious really to see if anyone had done this and what their experiences might be... Beastie has been overfuelling for some time (assaults the nostrils) so the map needs some looking at (I'm assuming).... although I guess there could be other reasons.. I'm also going through my annual 'need more power/torque' crises...
The megasquirt is not a bad system. I have an MS2 ECU running V3.4.1 code, managing fuel and spark, and it is fine. The wiring loom could have been done better when it was installed by a previous owner as it splices in to the original loom, but it works.
I have used Shaun from MS2 Tuning to sort out the maps and tuning, who appears to know is stuff. He might be worth talking to, unless you already have exhausted that route, before you ditch your MegaSquirt system. Shaun is not massively expensive, but is very busy so can be a little difficult to get a slot booked in.

As above, shouldn't be any increase in Power although the Emerald can be more finely tuned, so Jools told me.
I nearly went with his deal but then threw a cam bearing last year and didn't!
Mine runs fine on MS and lets face it, it's an old school big lump. Would I notice any fine tuning as it relieves me of the cost of a gallon of fuel every 12-15 miles, probably not?
Would I get better MPG, possibly but is it worth the cost and the hassle, debatable.
In your case I would defo go to Jools and analyse its running and take it from there.

That's the plan Peter, and I was only curious about the Emerald 'upgrade', not thinking of it as a route to more power... Both Shaun and Phil Ringwood (who's local to me) have mapped the car in the past...

Emerald is in dire need of an update IMO its comparable to MS2 alright
but MS3 is current Megasquirt and as been around for a while now and blows Emerald into a cocked hat
I'll have a look into the MS3 Simon... The boys at V8D installed my MS2 in 2011, (loom courtesy of Shaun), and Phil Ringwood helped me out with a dodgy air temp sensor (which Rob eventually relocated from the CF plenum down to the induction hose in the engine bay a foot or so back from my air filter which resides in the doggy bite).

As mentioned earlier not looking to ditch MS was just curious about the Emerald upgrade...
Thanks for reminding me about MS3...

Well MS3X to be precise more options than you can dream of dual wide-band CANBUS support, Launch control, Flat shift, Boost control, Nitrous 1 & 2, Full Seq inj and Ign loads of safety stuff inc sensor failure fault light shed loads inputs outputs etc etc blah blah even idle has its own fuel table + the usual closed loop idle control etc its like MS2 on steroids but with much more options i.e programmable inputs and outputs As mentioned earlier not looking to ditch MS was just curious about the Emerald upgrade...

and the best bit is your old MS2 can be upgraded too MS3 or MS3X Edited by Sardonicus on Monday 11th April 16:27

I mentioned MS3 to Dale when he was remapping mine a couple weeks ago. He couldn't see the reason in bothering on a NA TVR.
Derek, need more info here... firstly, why couldn't Dale see the reason in bothering with MS3 on a NA TVR.... and secondly, who the feck is Dale?
Daz I'm running speeding density/MAP and I run a bigger cam than you although things are marginal why have 2D when you can have 3D ? Derek Dale is kinda right but I plan on going full seq inj for low RPM benefits and for that you need MS3 you can only do semi seq with MS2 half way house IMO
