Insurance quandary ?
Discussion
I`m trying to advise one of my service customers on an insurance claim, what would you guys do with this one?
Car is an immaculate September 07 Fiesta 1.2 with only 45K on the clock.Been in the family since new,her pride and joy.
The car was parked at her local surgery when a driverless car rolled across and collided with the rear.Apparently an old feller parked it and forgot the hand brake.Luckily no one was in the way, swopped insurance details and she DROVE it home.
HER insurance co (Saga) told her to take it to THEIR recommended repairer, who gave her a courtesy car and did the estimate which was just over £4000 !!!!!!!!!!!!FFS! and declared it a right off,she is waiting to see what the pay out amount will be,£3000 has been mentioned over the phone.
I`ve seen the car, dent in O/S 1/4 panel, broken lamp, small damage to lower part of tail gate, rear bumper broken.Remember the car rolled into it.I'm sure my old school bodyshop mate could repair that car for around £1500.
Shall she:-
1. Except the pay out and buy another car.
2. Except a reduced pay out, keep the car and have it repaired by my mate. Then it would get a CAT 3 on the V5.
3. Demand that my mate does all the insurance work. His estimate being much lower would be accepted and the car
would not be a right off.
Any other suggestions guys? I`ve told her in my opinion that £4K estimate is ridiculous. The car is her property, she decides where its repaired and must not let her insurer dictate what will happen to HER car.

Actually, if she's claiming off her insurer, that's probably not true. You might like to read the Ts & Cs of the policy.Take the CatC, get it straightened, and continue to run it.
