Surprised that is only manages a lap just 0.45 secs quicker than the Mini; thought there'd be much more of a gap between the two.

Once I get my cup 2s on the R, I'll take him wink

PS As this is PH, I think I should make it clear that this is a joke, for avoidance of doubt, I'm no driving God and I know the R would not be able to keep a GT4 honest on track

Thanks for posting that. Reminds so much of a 996GT3, but easier to drive. Probably match lap times.

Having been in both I think the GT4 would better a 996GT3 unless breathed on by Manthey or similar.
The 981 GT4s and Spyders are very impressive track cars, embarrassing much more expensive exotics.

Quite fancy returning to Blyton to emulate the video, anyone else up for it on May 25th?

As I understand it a Mini challenge car is technically a race car rather than a road car so maybe not a real world comparison to the normal GT4.

I checked after my comment as I was surprised at the time difference, and you are right, that Mini is pretty mental wink

I've taken a 996 GT3 and GT4 to silverstone, spa, and nuburgring on the same day. Both with cup 2 tyres. To be honest, the 996 GT3 though standard in the engine department, does have some upgrades to suspension and brakes - but no more than many 996 GT3s do out there. The GT4 fully standard.

...my experience is that the GT4 is only marginally quicker - less than a second at the two GP circuits. Nurburgring was difficult to compare due to other factors. Of course, yet to change geo (via additional shims/arms) on the GT4 to see where it can end up.

GT4 definitely easier to drive. In fact I have used the GT4 to attack corners where the 996 GT3 felt challenging, and then once gained the confidence, do the same in the GT3 and marvel at the underlying pace of the car.

A GT4 lap looks very composed and smooth (some may call less challenging/involving)
A GT3 lap looks very involving (lots of steering and controls inputs) and ultimately more satisfying to extract the time....but I suspect not for the masses.

I expect newcomers to track driving enjoying the GT4 more whilst more experienced drivers the physical challenge of the GT3...

Good to hear that comparison. GT4 tuning is in its infancy, it will surpass the 6GT3 within a year and be knocking on the door of it's bigger brother.

10% more power and or 10% shorter diff - perfect track car.

Porsche will need to homologise the GT4 race car to be competitive in Eiropean GT4. Currently it is too heavy and under powered. By the nature of the homologation process, expect to see some revisions to the next GT4. I would be careful what you wish for however, because outright pace often comes at the cost of delicacy and involvement. From a pure driver involvement/reward perspective many would agree that the first incarnation of the GT3 remains the best. In wishing to out perform it you may well end up with a car that does not reward as much as the GT4 you already have.

I doubt a fettled GT4 can ever surpass a fettled 6/7 GT3. The engines of the older cars are very tuneable and there's a deep knowledge pool about them. These old things are getting to the stage where if used as intended they have had rebuilds and they've been rebuilt by various guys like Manthey, Sharkwerks, etc rebuild as 3.8, 3.9, 4.0. 4.1 and 4.2 with between 400bhp and 500bhp. They're very quick. I think what may be a shame is that as the 6 GT3 becomes collectable more will revert to standard factory spec as the beardos unfortunately only like factory spec cars tucked up in their garages. Same issue may effect GT4 as they are already a classic trading considerably over list.

Power kit version of the 991 GTS engine somehow fitted to the GT4 - AP has mentioned they considered it but was difficult.

Was interesting at Spa, LaSource was kind enough to let me play in both his gt3 & gt4 & with me as a totally diferent driver, pretty experienced tracker but not in non front engined pork, slower times yet same results as him, 1 sec quicker in gt4, in fairness track was better for the gt4 laps.

His gt3 other than engine is pretty track modded tho, yet the only one I have any sort of moment in is the gt4, front end for a stock roadcar is utterly fab, but just not got the front end bite of gt3 with lots of camber & hard track suspension, chuck some cambers at gt4 plus a fettle with Geo & it will be epic, stock suspension felt ace too.

I have to admit something tho, never had traction control on any of my trackcars, feel that like auto boxes it's for fags who can't drive properly, (I make exceptions on the traction for rwd & 600bhp & over tho) yet when its yr mates car of a spec that's well north of £100k for overs, the thought of writing that cheque in the case of a Cayman/Armco interface & paying it off over the next 300yrs meant when I reached over to the release the joy buttons, all I did was press the noisy exhaust one.

Fag!

I think the GT4 will, you can also get the same engines upgrades if you want to go 4.0 450bhp, but the GT4 foot print is just a better one imo

A stock GT4 is already faster than a geo up 996 GT3.
