Sorry if this has been covered before, I didnt find anything in a quick search.....

Years ago I bought a TVR Speed 12 Scalextric model and it has been sat on the shelf ever since looking very nice!
My son recently got a Scalextric set with 2 Mini Coopers so we got the TVR out, odd thing is, on the same track with the same controller, the Minis go one way and the TVR wants to go the opposite direction (not at the same time of course).

Has there been a change in design over the years or is there a setting somewhere to change the direction the car travels? It seems a bit odd, that they go opposite directions as all cars are Scalextric cars

I'm guessing the minis are for digital track & tvr was for older track. Maybe just turn minis around & race that way around the track or swap the wires in the tvr to go same way as the minis. Pics of cars or track in question may help a bit more. Cheers

Sounds to me like someone has swapped the wires from the brushes to the motor around on the TVR. Just take the body shell off and swap them back over and it will then run in the same direction as the Minis.

Forgive me if I'm wrong here, but my nephew's a Scalextric fan & he had problems running his older non digital cars on digital track to the point where a couple of the motors burned out. Isn't it a big no-no to run older cars on digital track?

A digitally equipped car can run on an old track. A car that isn't fitted to run on a digital track should not be used. This is because a digital track has a constant 16v ac across the rails, and the speed of a digital car is controlled by a digital signal superimposed on this and decoded by the onboard chip.

If a car that is not fitted with a chip is placed on a digital track, it will get 16v ac fed to it's motor, which will likely result in a strange buzzing noise shortly followed by the smell of electrical burning.

Having said all that, the OP did not mention that the Mini set is digital, and if it's not he should have no problem running the TVR on it.

How do you tell if the track is digital? The Mini set is this one http://www.scalextric.com/uk-en/shop/themes/mini/s... the TVR Speed 12 is model C2194, I believe it was new when I got it and hasnt been "modified"

The link's not working, do you mean the mini challenge set (C1320)? :

If so, it's not digital.

The track itself is no different from analogue, the digital "bit" is provided by a digital powerbase, controllers and chips in the cars.

You can convert an analogue layout to digital by adding these digital elements at any time.
