Am I correct in assuming that both top/bottom ball joints can be replaced without compressing the road spring? Obviously removing the original bottom rivets will be challenging? Is the top ball joint also riveted to the wish bone. Thanks J C.

Hi John

It's been 3 years since I replaced mine. But I think you are correct, just keep a jack under it. I did compress the spring using a home made compressor as I wanted the shocks out at the same time. Center punch and drill should sort the rivets without too much trouble.

Karl.

Thanks Karl. Was going to use an angle grinder.eek Drill might be a little more precise. Can you remember Karl if the top ball joints are originally riveted in please? Thanks. J C.

I would use a centre punch and drill. If you slip with the grinder, you could damage the arm. Slower, but lower risk.

If it were me, I would put wooden blocks under chassis at arm mounting, and probably an axle stand under the suspension.

But then, I've had a couple of near misses with jacks I won't ever forget ...

Points noted Andy, vehicle already on axle stands, jack and blocks under lower wishbone. This evening I've.released the ball joint and drilled out the rivets. My upper joints look bolted, happy days. Cheers J C.
