So I have Roobarb. A stunning car IMHO and a fast 4.0HC - even according to Austec who should know. I have been thinking about buying a 5L then sombody dangled a 5.0L engine infront of me and asked why I did put this in Roobarb. For 4.5K its a cheap route to alot more speed. So what do you lot reckon, do you think its a good idea. The car itself is in really good nick, and having spent an age trying to get hold of a decent 5 for a friend of mine, I'm wandering if I should cut my losses and just do it.

shirley for 4.5k you can get hold of a 4.6 block, fancy cam/head and other bits and get someone to build and install a shiny new one for you?

Engine conversion never makes sense compared to trading up the car. It'll cost more (money you'll never get back), be harder to insure and you won't have the other brake and suspension changes that came as standard with more power.

I agree. I've been in the same boat with previous cars... You are so sure that your car is special and you don't want to part with it, so you persuade yourself that i't best to spend a wad to upgrade rather than part exchange.

it's the heart speaking. It makes no sense. Instead, treat it as a chance to try something new. Maybe different colour, different leather, etc as well as different engine. You won't look back :-)

Thanks for the advice there. GreenV8S you are quite right in what you say, and I think I knew that all along really, just needed someone to point it out.
So what do I replace Roobarb 1 with ?
Roobarb 2 of course !!

Why change at all?

Corin Denton changed his 4.0 for a 5.0 and I'm not convinced that he's convinced he did the right thing (if you follow).

He's the man to speak to, but he finds the 5.0 hard to drive 'enthusiasticaly' in the damp/moist conditions from October to April. I think he had more fun in his 4.0.

It is also a modified car from an insurance standpoint which may or may not cause problems.

The new Toyos didn't help, they're bedding in nice now to start with they were terrible but now I'm pleased with them, I loved my four litre and do wish i had kept it sometimes but I'm now getting to the stage where I want more grunt now even with the 500 but most of my driving of late has been straight line stuff, it's in the twisties it matters and the four litre was more chuckable.
