You can now check your MOT history on line going back to 2005 free of charge. I just tried a few cars and it works really well. Very interesting indeed!

It's quite funny reading back all the advisories over the years shows what a busy boy I've been :-)

My TVRs have been away too long and don't come up (although they do work on the 'last taxed' lookup)

My old kit car (Marlin) comes up with
"steering column repaired by welding" which is interesting because they ALL had a piece welded in as part of their design ....
unless it's someone else's bodge of course.

I see it's now got a bloody diesel engine in it !! Sacrilege !!

I recon there must have been some shenannigans going on just before I purchased my S1 - unless there had been some serious work done on the evening of the 8th

Interesting one year shows 99,970 then the next year it has only 184 miles showing, obviously only goes up to 100,000 then back to 000,000, but it looks good as if its a new car mileage. On one of my Tasmin's it has 385 miles then no mot then the following year the mot shows 53,127 miles so either they have done nearly 53,000 miles in two years one year of which was not mot or they have wound the mileage up for some reason, the true mileage must have been about 105,000 then, that's good i always thought it had done 163,000 as did the owner who sold it to me not the 63,000 showing, so the true mileage must be about 115,000 now.

Only goes back ten years though, is that the same for everyone.

On mine there has been a change of number plate within the last ten years and it still picks the history up although does not indicate the previous number.

Good though and mine has done little mileage over the last ten years (approx. 9k) , need to change thatsmile

Well, going back ten years or so is still very useful I think, and it is a free service so we can't complain I suppose. Many people will find some inconsistencies in their MOT records and undoubtedly start worrying about it. At least we have some service records to go on, so better than nothing.

I came accross this a couple of weeks ago when selling another car, the guy that came to look at it gave me this long list of things on the advisories from prevoius mots wanting to use it as an excuse to offer me a derisory offer. He left after I offered him two fingers.

Very handy..Its nice to see the government giving us something for the money we plough into our cars...I would love to see a copy of the schedule for repairing the potholes just for London alone but i should guess that doesn't exist.....

"I don't care what the previous fails were - they are all fixed" will become a new mantra.

What it's REALLY useful for, as above is tracking the mileage, and stopping the wind-backs.

Not perfect, but better than nothing.

Checking my old 78 camper, comes up with this, note milage :-

Maybe some of the older vehicles did change at 100,000 or something odd going on.

Up until about a year ago, you needed the actual certificate number of an MoT to find this out. They then changed it to the system available now.

Not all MoT testing stations were computerised at the same time. There was a rollout period between, I think, 2006 and 2008. So some cars will have longer MoT histories to see than others. Nothing shady!
