Ed China thread....
Discussion
Genuine question and not looking for an argument, but can somebody please explain why this thread was closed?
Surely if it had been left in GG, as after all it was very obviously just a few of us having a bit of fun right from the start, with even the OP joining in, it would still be running?
Why was it not viewed as the "Chris Goffey" thread that is pretty much the same old rubbish and just banter?

Hi,
The moderators generally only take action in threads that are getting reported by users for being offensive etc. This is because it would be near enough impossible for them to read every single post in every single thread. I believe that this is the case for the Ed China thread.
So, instead of laying blame at the moderators perhaps you should consider that it is simply the case that other PHers were finding the thread offensive?
Thanks
JD

Was this thread getting a lot of reports from posters?
It was one of the few threads which were allowing people to have fun, not causing direct personal attacks on other posters and no real arguments.
The message Big Al left said that it had gone off topic, surely that was the whole point of the thread?

Where do you draw the line on what people find offensive?
If someone were to take offence at the horse racing event thread, would you close that?
You have to be very careful when using the level of offense as an indicator.
I don't think anything that I saw on the Edd China thread was offensive. It's a personal opinion.
Again, and this has been covered a multitude of times before, inconsistency reigns.

Exactly, as I said earlier, even the OP was joining in!! Just need to figure out how to start a new one without offending anybodyIt was one of the few threads which were allowing people to have fun, not causing direct personal attacks on other posters and no real arguments.

The reason given is;"As this thread has now gone totally off topic, it's time for closure."

It's been commented before that if a thread gets reported a few times then it gets closed. It seems this is simply to cut down on the number of reports coming in.If someone were to take offence at the horse racing event thread, would you close that?

The danger of this approach should be obvious.

Shall we find a thread and put the theory to the test? The danger of this approach should be obvious.
