A friend of mines Boxster has broken down and she has been informed the cam shaft has snapped on the left hand bank. It is an older 2.7 Ltr engine. Is this common, and if so what is the cause, if anyone can shed some light...
Thanks

I've never heard of a camshaft failure before on a Boxster, perhaps best to have a chat with Hartech to get their take on it, as I believe they race a Boxster

The car is a 2002 model...from your comments it does sound a bit strange. She is being threatened with an engine change, if one can be found...I suggested she put a 3.8 911 engine in but she was not amused!
I'll try Hartag, thanks.

Just thinking out loud...

Cam shaft or cam chain?

Or maybe the ims bearing's gone but they haven't worked that far back.

Easy to do if the cams are not pinned in place before the cam covers are removed. Not a mistake a specialist would make but a non specialist could very well do....

Why would the cam cover ever come off though? To change the chain?
