Notchy Steering but not rack or UJs

I posted the following post in the s series forum as this topic had come up there when I searched.

I am searching for information about how to find and fit a new chimaera steering column bearing and this thread seems to provide some of the information.
Why am I looking - well I have a notchy steering action that is intermittent, (Been like that for over 5 years). It feels like the steering is close to sticking when turning the wheel but never does. Then it feels fine for periods of time.
I have new UJs in the steering and the rack is tested to be working perfectly. The UJs went on last year and they have been off again and oil soaked before refitting during this years servicing. The garage tested the rack while the UJs were off and suggest that the notchy steering must be an issue further up the column.
By the way the rack is power steering and the pipework is upgraded to the new kit from our parts chap over in Huddersfield - John Zubak.
My understanding is that the bulkhead bearing kit might be a solution but I cannot find details of how hard a job it is to replace.
Can anyone out there help from their own experience?
