Just purchased a gtv 2.0 TS
The prev owner had the cam belt and tensioners replaced(engine has done 64,000 miles)but the garage did not replace the Variator which is noisy when the engine is cold, any ideas on the cost of this job alone.
Also i get quite a bit of wind noise from the drivers window(door does seem straight),and the hand brake light comes on under acceleration!!!,lastly the drivers door does not open properly from inside or out (the handle to open inside door is quite floppy.
Any ideas on any of the above.

Window noise is common in GTV/Spider and usually requires the window to be adjusted. It can also be poor fit of the door rubbers so check this first. details of how to adjust the windows can be found on gtvv6.com.
congrats on your purchase

Well take the Cambelt + Tensioner cost and about about 70 quid. For replacing the variator.

The cable from door handle to lock sits in a little plastic catch that can slip off firly easily. You need to take the trim off (multiple hex head screws and lift up whilst the window is down) and slip it back round. If it is generally floppy the psring may have gone in which case you need a new handle unit. They are available from EB Spares on mail order. Overall it is about a twenty minute job. The handbrake light sounds like a dodgy switch or spring.

Well done- hope you like your new GTV!
The variator is the pain to do. The inlet cam must come out. If the belts and tensioner were done recently, it may be possible to simply change the variator as it is possible to barely disturb the belts. If that was the case, it would cost £70 variator + a couple or so hours labour, I think.

However, if any significant mileage has been covered since, then just change the belts again. It's really just not worth taking a chance.

RE: handbrake light on accelleration - check the brake fluid level. Its probably low enough to expose the sensor when the fluid sloshes around on hard accelleration / braking.
