Morning

I've had both a 997 & Cayman S previously so understand fuel economy. We are currently run a BMW 2.0d (New) and a Lotus Elise S however after my wife's next car (X5) we are considering swapping both cars for a 991

Probably doesn't get asked much however how many bags of shopping can you get in the front? This will be used as our everyday car so with the exception of dumping rubbish and airport run's (cheap run about) it will need to do everything else. Comments welcome ?

Quite a change from an X5! I have a 997 and an X5.

Not sure about the 991 but with the 997 if you have a Carrera 4 the front boot is smaller...if you go with a GTS because it has the wide body the boot is smaller regardless of whether you have a 2 or a 4. I reckon 4 or 5 plastic carrier bags in the front boot of my 997 GTS. Obviously you can also fold down the rear seats and use that as storage space.

Hi,

Quite easily 6 carrier bags of shopping. The back of the back seats fold forward also and that makes a fair old space.

Thanks guys

That is a week (or two) shopping for me and the wife which is ample. My youngest son (18) now has his own car so we are looking to buy between us as opposed to having two separate cars. We may still need a run around however my previous 911 made a lot of sense.

For many years I lived in London and used various 911s as my only everyday car, inc rush-hour - 911SC, 964, 993.... A 991 will be a doddle. But, yes, worth having a run-around for those duties you may not feel fitting for a 911.

I find porsche 911/ Cayman and boxsters very practical for shopping and airport runs but have a fiesta for the dirty jobs ie tip runs etc

I also really lust the new 911 (991) plus I've had Lotus now for a very long time (12 years). Did break away while I had the 911, Cayman & 430 but went back quickly. This time I plan to enjoy other brands and change it up a bit

My only other Issue is the car will be kept on the driveway. My garage is only just big enough for my Elise so the 911 will not fit, I'll need to find an external cover with soft inside (may need to get one made). Anyone thoughts ?

4 Large Waitrose reusable bags in the front easily, probably 8 in the back if you really wanted to.

Not sure I'd want to be fitting and removing an outdoor cover too often. I'd invest in a good paintwork/glass protection system (ask one of the 'detail' fanatics on here) and only fit a cover in extreme weather, or if it wasn't being used for a while.

Lovely cars, the 991s, BTW.

Mine lives on the drive, they are waterproof after all but it does get a healthy coating of dust. Really wish I had invested in a full detail and protective coating when new. Saying that, my last one sat out there for 4 1/2 years without any issues.

I got £140 worth of shopping in the front of my little 993 at the weekend, about 6 bags.

Should be a cinch in a 991!
