LR extended warranty costs/restrictions?
Discussion
Looking at a circa 2012 Disco 4 and want to understand the policy regarding extended warranty.
Would be buying from a dealer, so would get the used car warranty, I'd then want to extend it. My experience is with BMW who bumped costs once certain mileages were hit.
So, any idea on the cost of an extended warranty on a D4?
Is there any upper mileage or age limit?
Is it a comprehensive warranty?

Loads of threads on the disco3.co.uk forum pages (dont be put off by the title, covers D4s as well) worth a look.
But probably two options
Warranty Direct - tends to be a bit cheaper but perhaps not as slick because the dealer would have to discuss with WD, agree costs etc etc. I was concerned there could be room for reasons to decline that the issue is covered, but several success stories on the D3 forum. In terms of cover, fairly comparable I believe, stuff on the forums about Betterment and negotiating to have the clause removed.
Land Rover Extended Warranty - which I have on a MY12 D4. Its about £1k pa (can pay in 10 monthly installments), includes LR Assist (roadside assistance). Any LR warranty needs to run consecutively, i.e. you would need to take it out before any existing LR warranty expires, otherwise you have to fund an inspection (£150). Farly comprehensive cover, but as with all these types of things, detail is in the small print and some things are open to interpretation. I took out the cover last Dec, already had £1500 of work done (power steering leak) - so I'm up on the deal with several months to go. But I suppose it may not always be the case, but I like the peace of mind. Its an insurance at the end of the day, how many times to people claim on their house insurance, but most people have it.

My warranty is (I think) £138 a month in ten payments but it does include the LR assist - for a 2009 car. It may be that the dealer is just very good and has a good reputation with te warranty people, but it has been excellent and worth every penny. Up to nearly £10,000 of repairs in nearly two years and not once have they quibbled.
It's been so good that I don't see why you'd buy a new one! I've often wondered if other manufacturers extended warranties are as good because you hear a lot of people complaining about them.
Edit: I should add that it's only left my wife stranded the once and if she'd been confident with pulling the emergency release on the handbrake she would have still been mobile. The bulk of the claims have been from replacing various drivetrain parts in the hunt to find a mysterious whining sound.
