I've been asked to be godfather to my fiancees brother's child.
He's a boy and I honestly don't know what to buy him as a gift.

I wouldn't mind buying him something that he can open when he is 18 that he'd actually appreciate, rather than buy him a silver spoon which he will never get use out of.

So what would you buy your godson?
Budget maybe upto £200? Can be split say half now that he can have as a child and half he could open in 17 years time.

Engraved hipflask and engraved tankard for my godsons.

I did birthdate rather than christening date.

I am Godfather to my nephew, he gets the privilege of my tutelage when he gets out of nappies. I shall steer him towards a love of cars, and take over his parentage if his parents snuff it. i may even offer spiritual guidance in whatever diety is offering the best after-death package, so he is set for all probabilities.
I never bothered with any of this gifting faff, and I am front in line to be Godfather to his next sprog too. Win.

Token gift to sew the seeds of automotive passion & the rest on premium bonds to potentially finance it.

Wish you were my Godfather. All I ever got (gift-wise, once may I add) was an Airfix spitfire. Some tutelage to tell me to buy a house instead of pissing it up the wall in my early years would have yielded much gratitude.

BTW Which deity is offering the best deal at the moment for a man with integrity, devoted (faithful husband for 18 years...so far) but slightly angry and harbouring a hatred of feminists, lefties and Mangoes.

Gift wise I'm probably not the best to ask. I'd opt for something for his 18th like a Leatherman which by then will be considered a classic icon, or maybe a chunk of shares to the value of £200 plus the divvies.

I got my nephew a (modern) pocket watch, with his name engraved on the back of it, for his christening gift. Most of these sorts of gifts just become nick-nacks, but it's nice to have some sort of object with some sentimentality to it.

This week it is Pigeon God, a white one that hangs around the front of Asda. A quick holy word ensures He doesn't get his disciples to st over one's car. But I don't need a afterlife plan this week. I will let you know after lengthy research which has the best future plan.

I have given silver spoons from Tiffanys. I have also given cake knives engraved with family names to be used at their wedding and their kids wedding. Based on this topic, the next gift will be whisky or wine. Although, it might need to age in wood and not glass

I gave both my god children 1st edition Winnie the Pooh books...this is going back 12 years so not sure what these fetch now...my sisters boy was one of them, and although I very subtlety told my sister that it was valuable so she would look after it I know she has gone and lost the fker...

Port is often an interesting gift - a bottle a year.

Alternatively antique silver napkin rings - one a year for 8 years or so. Builds a nice collection.

My Godchildren are now teenagers so it's normally stuff from Amazon. smile

Gave each of our three grandchildren £150 in a joint building society account with SWMBO and £100 in premium bonds. Time will tell if either one is a good investment.
