991 GT2 (RS)

If anyone's interested - some very recent spy shots of Porsche testing what appears to be the 991 GT2. Quite interested in this - 2wd and 600+hp..

Now that Fezza is also turbocharged can't see that happening especially as new track version is rumoured to have 700bhp!!!!

The holes to aid cooling and help airflow through intercoolers in the rear bumpers and non central exhaust are a good clue thats the new GT2. Don't think the guys who are say its the new 4.2 GT3 RS Auto Evolution have a clue.

as 9e 28 says, this mule is turbocharged so not GT3. Also agree re 488 - it's rapid. Very rapid. Porsche's have great grip off the line but all that aero can slow it down vs the bodyshape of 488, Mac etc. Hopefully Porsche will make the GT2 a lairy mo-fo on acid

Also exhaust is blueing too which is typical of a titanium system which the GT2 normally has. Agree re 488. Taken Fezza's entry level car to a ridiculous performance level. Last GT2 RS had 620bhp so can't see Porsche giving the new GT2 more than this - maybe the same 620bhp for new GT2 and 650bhp for new GT RS. Its not enough power to compete with Macca and Ferrari's offerings which use conventional turbos. VTG turbos on latest Porsches have an efficiency ceiling of about 650bhp. After this they just produce too much heat to manage so if Porsche want their GT2 RS to outperform Ferrari and Mclaren they will struggle if they retain VTGS for their highest performance variants like they have on 911 and Boxster.

I've heard a rumour that they may go hybrid with GT2 ala 918 which could overcome 650bhp ceiling VTGs have.

I reckon we will see 700+bhp. What a great world we are living in to be able to buy such monsters when Tesla have sold I believe over 400,000 model 3 toasters. I know which I would rather be driving.

Does it not feel though that the GT2 is just morphing into the GT3 RS? I mean it's going to be difficult for Porsche to hold back without making this GT2 blow a 3RS into the weeds! I can't wait to see the specs (if this is indeed a GT2) because atm it looks like a 3RS with another 150+hp! Unless, it's going to be manual only

So out of interest what would you guy's like to see from a 991 GT2?

Difficult one to answer. Obviously it will need to have "Tubo Nutter Busterd" emblazzoned up its flanks ! Seriously though I think it will prove quite difficult that is if we are to believe that the current aero additions are relevant. Appearance whether we like to admit it or not is important so quite how Porsche can make it look that different may present a problem.

If I was in the position of being able to order one having owned a 991 GT3 and now an RS I would opt for a unique colour peculiar to the GT2 only. I think manual would be out of the question as Porsche would clearly be chasing the 488 and 570/ 650. All the current driver aides would be very necessary with a rumoured 700BHP. After all the company has to look responsible. Weight is going to be an issue with the Maccas boasting a much lighter chassis. Carbon Fibre will be prevalent. Lithium batteries will be probably be standard fit. 345 rear tyres are being hinted at in which case we might get an even wider track. In which case the car is going to look wild!
So to conclude. I'd love one!

Some good points Rob. Imagine if they did pump the arches a bit wider - FAT! Would love to see 700hp but personally can't see any more than previous 2RS - that had a power-to-weight ration of around 450hp/ton! With PDK that would make for an insanely quick 911. Bring it on!
