I know, I know...This thread is worthless without pics etc. However, something bizarre happened in Leighton Buzzard town centre today.

As my wife, daughter and I were leaving an unsavoury establishment, almost immediately we saw right in front of us a black car crashing into one of the market stalls. It toppled the frame completely over, spilling all of the goods onto the floor...dog biscuits, cabbages, drinks and even their petty cash...the whole lot on the floor!

I told my wife to stay where she was and ran over to help, but there wasn't anyone in the car. It was a modern, black Bentley with if I remember correctly FRB 1 as the private plate. Once everyone had realised no one had been hurt, several of us pushed the car back up the road and much to our surprise, the car was unlocked. But not just unlocked...the keys were in the ignition...!

After trying to get the automatic handbrake to work, we managed to get it into park position. Word quickly got around that it was Frank Bruno's car and as I was helping to put the market stall the right way up again, he showed up round the corner looking very startled! He had been in the bank and didn't quite no what to say.

There was some very deep scratches to the NS and a couple of dents that'll be difficult to get out (a post and near front light) but I reckon the automatic handbrake failed, as the burger van people said it had been parked where it was for 5-10 minutes before it rolled off and it was quite a significant hill.

He hung around for about 20 minutes and made sure the stall owners were OK before driving off. Several people took pictures but I didn't as I didn't want to be 'one of those' people...

Not something you see everyday!

Do modern Bentleys have keys to put in an ignition?

Bentley must be new as I think that plate was previously on his Merc GL.

FRB 1 was his and on a couple of Bentleys in the past. However, it's currently on a Merc.

FB1 is currently on this:

And has been on Porsches (including in the Gumball 3000)

Probably the handbrake wasn't set to auto, but the car might have had auto-hold, which would hold it for a few mins. Combined with not shifting the transmission to Park (and leaving the keys in so it didn't do that automatically if it has an electronic shift) I could easily imagine how the car could roll away. Any modern VAG car could do this.
