AV system and power inverters
Discussion
Looking for a bit of advice here please guys.
Currently living in China but will be moving to Japan in the summer. I have managed to start building an AV system and I am looking to progressively develop it over time.
Will be using an xbox one as the main input, apple tv and probably some kind of android tv box (also have an amazon fire stick thats probably redundant now, never been able to use it due to the awful internet here).
Currently have a 2010 Philips 5.1 system, with seperate amp and dvd player, however the players tray mechanism has decided to give up, and while getting it repaired here is easy, it will be the third repair in as many months, and leaving china I am not sure how easy I can keep doing it...
All the kit I have is 220-240v, but Japan will be 110v. I am looking at getting a Denon receiver (AVR X1200W) and using the current speakers I have until I can start upgrading them.
Question is, I would have to run an inverter for everything, so would it work or would I be loosing out on the upgrade and just better of being patient or possibly buying in Japan. Preference is to buy 240v kit to future proof, who knows where we will end up next kind of thing.
Whats the collective wisdom? Inverter ok, use more than one for the system, don't be stupid and buy local or something I havent thought of?
Already need to get inverters for a few things anyway and they are cheap.

An inverter changes DC to AC - I don't think that's what you need.
I think that you need a step down transformer: http://www.amazon.com/STEP-DOWN-TRANSFORMER-ADAPTE...
I don't see any reason why you can't use several transformers or one large transformer with a mains multi block plugged into it.
If you're buying new stuff make sure that it supports both 110V and 230V. That is pretty standard. I'm surprised that your current equipment doesn't.
One thing that *might* make a difference is that some of Japan is 50Hz and some is 60Hz. I doubt that will make a difference but I guess you should check that your equipment is happy with the frequency where you end up.

nyt, your right I do need a step down transformer and meant to say that... too much going on already.
Thanks for the advice. I would say the majority of new stuff is ok re voltage and flexibility to use, however the current surround sound system (which I would look to steal the speakers from to start with) and maybe the TV (new, but a local make...)
Will investigate a little more.
Thanks again

Mainly because I didnt know I could... i have dreams and desires but not much knowledge on this kind of things hence asking for this forums wisdom!!
Good news for you - it's really common. Some time ago, many manufacturerss realised that at certain price points, it was far, far more cost effective to make 1 SKU for the whole world - for many lines, only the power lead (kettle lead type job) and the position of the voltage switch on the back change between geographies.Like this:

Now I'm no good at googling in China, but here's a site dedicated to it:
http://www.worldwidevoltage.com/receiver.html
My guess is that you could find models you like there, then search for supply locally?

Only problem with buying here is that fakes are so prevalent its hard to know where is good to buy from. To the extent that its thought over 80% of the alcohol sold here in shanghai is fake (including supermarkets...)
Thanks for the info though, seriously helpful
