Looking for some advice from you experts. biggrin

When my son finishes Uni I will buy him a car, he would like an MX5 because its sporty and a convertible and in budget. What year / millage would people recommend, budget is 3-4-5k. Also is there anything specifically I should beware about or check when viewing. Thanks

Buy him this one, looks mint.

Nothing to do with me I was just idly browsing mk1s. They look great with the right wheels and a subtle drop.

That sort of budget gets you in an early MK3, that's where my money would go. Bigger, safer, less rust.

I'd be looking for a spotless mk3 1.8, probably a limited edition of some kind to get the leather seats.

I too would aim for a Mk3, but it would be a 2.0 as I don't see the point of the 1.8. The running cost saving is negligible and the performance difference is quite big.

No brainer, imo.

Was thinking insurance for a younger person. Otherwise i agree, the 2.0 has traction control which may reduce it though?
