My friend has been receiving malicious texts on his mobile. Is there any way I can find the owner of the number?

Contact the network, they will advise although I believe you need to contact the police.

From another landline phone or Public phone, not owned by them! Get someone else to phone and they listen in, to see if they recognise the voice.

Depends...............is the "friend" on Voodoofone ? If so, forward them to VSPAM (87726) and they will sort it out for you.

That tends only to work for companies sending spam (and has worked very well for that). If there is no indication in the actual message of who it is from, then forwarding it to VSPAM will lose the information about the real originator of the message, thus making it untraceable.
