Imagine if there were no gun laws in your country.
Discussion
As the title says, imagine you live in a country with no gun laws whatsoever. You need a basic gun licence but anyone over 18 can get one as long as they don't have a criminal record. If someone breaks into your house, you can shoot them as long as you can prove it was self defence.
Would you buy a gun? Would you walk around with one? Would you keep one in your car or home. What would you buy? You can buy anything you want.

I would open carry if it were permitted here. I'd probably have something practical for the weekdays like a Glock 17 and maybe a Ruger Blackhawk for the weekends. I'd have one hell of a gun collection if we were allowed them in this country.

I'm in LA at the moment and last week we drove out to Oxnard to try out a shooting range.
Even tho I explained that I was a Brit and had limited rifle experience and no experience of using a pistol other than air weapons, I was just handed the guns, ammo and mags and left to get on with it.
Luckily I've seen enough films to happen to know what to do.
The handgun was a Sig just like my BB pistol but 40 cal. Boy does firing that give you some respect and a little fear for the weapon.
I then asked for an M4 assault rifle thinking I'd be told no, but the guy behind the counter casually handed one over only showing me the mag release that needed the nose of a smaller bullet to access the release. California law.
He also stressed that I keep the rifle pointed upwards until I got to my stall and that my target should be at max distance.
I'm sensible and took it easy, did well and enjoyed myself. One off the bucket list. Me and my friend were the only ones there which I was grateful as when we finished a few yee haw guys turned up, one with a Democrat sign that he wanted as a target.
I wouldn't have felt comfortable sharing the range with those guys all with live firearms.
So the point of all this is that there is no way here in the UK that I would want the idiots around me carrying weapons.

And even though I have a fair amount of experience with firearms, I wouldn't own one let alone carry or have it near my home.
Jim Jeffreys gun control routine sums all the reasons up better than I ever could.

I live & work in Texas most of the time so all of the above is true except for that you don't need a licence

So....you HAVE to be over 18, AND have a license AND no criminal record? Just what kind of hippie socialist commie-lovin' dystopia are you trying to create?Would you buy a gun? Would you walk around with one? Would you keep one in your car or home. What would you buy? You can buy anything you want.

Yes. I would probably buy one or two. I would probably not generally walk around with them. I would keep them in a safe at home and fire them at a range. Probably a revolver and an automatic for starters to compare them.
Obviously the world would instantly end. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria...

I don't like guns personally though I am fascinated by the engineering - particularly semi-autos.
But above all, is this where we would end up ?

The problem would be that with guns being so easily available.... the guys breaking into your house would have guns.... and we end up with America.Would you buy a gun? Would you walk around with one? Would you keep one in your car or home. What would you buy? You can buy anything you want.
Very few people in our society NEED a gun. ( e.g. Vet ) but the problem is with the people that WANT a gun.
I have no issue with a single shot pistol/ rifle being kept in a shooting range, with just no way of you getting the ammunition and/or gun out of the facility.

At home, and in the boot of the car on the way to/from the range.el stovey said:

I would have to do some research but I would like my old Colt 45 back, or one like it.I imagine the gang of kids at the corner shop would put a new perspective on idiocy. No real living history of ownership in this country, what can go wrong?
I expect that we will all see the sensible and correct thing to do and not buy any.
Something not right with that last sentence......
