Sold my X50 to 911virgin
Discussion
Some of you may remember my post asking for a little help valuing my 996 Turbo ? The thread was quite rightly removed as I didn't read the rules...
Anyway I rang all the dealers and was offered between 43 and 47k for the car !
(2004 X50, Aero kit, Manual, 57k, Polar silver, lots of nice options, great history file, genuinely lovely example)
911 virgin were great from the first phone call and promised 47k if the car was as described, another specialist offered to match them but didn't have enough funds at the moment so "could I wait until they sold a couple of cars" then I was being offered around 43-45k from others to buy it outright or give it to them as sale or return and hope to achieve 47-48k after their fees etc...
I put a advert on here and eBay for £49,995 and had loads of interest ! A couple of them very genuine nice people but I would have had to wait for them to view the car... Decide if they wanted it... Negotiate... Then have the worry of getting cleared funds before letting them drive off in my car ?
Anyway I had the advert up for 48 hours before deciding it wasn't worth the hassle for another possible 1-2k... I had hoped to give a fellow enthusiast the opportunity to cut out the dealer and save themselves a few k but it really wasn't worth the hassle. (Plus I had the usual nut jobs asking silly things and offering 10k off the asking price without so much as a phone call)
So I took the plunge and jumped in the car at 5.30am on Saturday morning and headed to 911Virgin some 300+ miles from sunny Newcastle where I live... I knew the car was as good as I had described but was still a little apprehensive in case they tried to bid me down when I had traveled so far ? My wife set off from home an hour after me to meet me there so it would have been a nightmare if the deal hadn't gone through for any reason.
Anyway Tom was there to meet me as agreed and what a genuinely lovely chap ! I had a look around the lovely showroom and amazing stock while he had a look over my car, once happy with the visual inspection he plugged the computer in to check for any faults and over revs etc... All came back good so we went for a little test drive, the car performed faultlessly so we popped into the office and the money was transferred into my account right in front of my eyes !
Job done, the wife arrived and off we went for a couple of days in London
I couldn't praise 911Virgin or Tom any higher ! So if you have a lovely example and are thinking of selling I hope my experience helps you with value and selling options or if you are in the market for an awesome X50 mine will be for sale very soon at 911Virgin once they do a few little jobs to get the car upto their exceptional standards.
Cheers

I bought the car for £35k nearly 7 years ago by the way so I've made a little bit as well as having the pleasure of the car for all those years, I didn't buy the car as an investment but I lost all interest in her and couldn't ignore the silly prices they are fetching at the moment...
I won't be buying another 911 as I'd only have a GT3 or turbo and the market is just silly at the moment with everyone jumping at the investment/profit idea ! the cars don't seem to be owned by traditional enthusiasts anymore ?
When the market corrects I'll no doubt buy another but in the mean time me and the wife are trying for children so I'll have plenty to keep me occupied for a few years and we've just ordered a new 26ft motorhome for family adventures ! Let's try this growing up malarkey...
I'm 32 now and that was my 4th 911 over the past 12 years so I've had my fill

The X50 due in is an automatic I believe hence the low price.
They were telling me just how many cars they have to refuse upon inspecting them ! One mans "mint" is another mans "scrap" it would seem
True. When I bought mine the fact they had put a warranty on it made me less worried about bore scoring etc. That X50 price would make sense if an auto. Still kicking myself that I didn't get a X50 turbo for £30 early in 2015 ! They were telling me just how many cars they have to refuse upon inspecting them ! One mans "mint" is another mans "scrap" it would seem

What you buying next with the money?
Just putting the money in the savings, ordered a £60k motorhome so it will help replenish a bit of that... Haha, time for kids so I won't be buying anymore silly cars for a few years.
I have a lovely 66 mustang that I'll never part with so I still have something to polish
